Trump Administration SCOTUS Brief Threatens Working People’s Livelihoods
AFL-CIO ^ | December 7, 2017 | AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

Posted on 12/07/2017 4:05:05 PM PST by mdittmar

Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the Trump administration’s brief to the Supreme Court on Janus v. AFSCME:

While President Trump boasts his support for working families, his administration is advocating a position in the United States Supreme Court that disregards decades of settled law and threatens our livelihoods. Yet again, his actions are failing his rhetoric and making clear that he has no intention of following through on his commitments to working people.

For more than forty years, through Republican and Democratic administrations, the law has recognized that unions and employers have the freedom to negotiate agreements under which everybody contributes his or her fair share. But now the Trump Administration is urging the Supreme Court to reverse this precedent and undermine working people and our unions. This is a shameful political payback to reward those who seek to do working people harm.

Arguing against our freedoms at work is not what working people expect of our government. Actions speak louder than words Mr. President, and these actions do not support working families as you so often claim.

“...unions and employers have the freedom to negotiate agreements under which everybody contributes his or her fair share.”

Wow! Right out of The Little Red Socialist Handbook, Eh, Comrade?

As a worker, I am against paying union dues to further their Communist agenda. Luckily, I live in Michigan where there is a Right To Work law. It should be the same throughout the country.

I turned down a job in a ‘regulated’ position at Lockheed because I hate unions. Never regretted it a moment.

Why do state and federal workers need a union?
These unions are the basis for the swamp and
Shadow government.

UAW lost 2-1 votes at Fuyao Glass Plant in Dayton. That stings after losing Nissan in Mississippi.
Companies bring up corruption like the US Justice probe into union misallocation of government funds at training facility in Detroit.

Federal workers should be held to the same standards as our military. No way should they, as a union, be allowed to funnel funds to one particular party over the objections of individual members. If the President wins, it will decimate AFSME and the rest of the federal worker’s unions, as it should be. I’m getting so tired of winning!

If the unions have a salable product for workers, they will join without coercion. If workers must be forced to join, that is no better than 0bamaCare.

When I saw that “working people” canard, I knew who wrote it before seeing the author’s name. Can you please define “working people?” Trumka never has.

In 2011 in Wisconsin, Gov Scott Walker and the Republicans managed to pass legislation which stopped public employee unions from being able to automatically deduct dues (Act 10). Five years later, public employee union membership in Wisconsin is down 40%, and the unions political power has been broken.

Expect a BIG fight over this.

These unions are the basis for the swamp and Shadow government.

The union hierarchy functions as an alternate and independent command-and-control line to public employees.

The terms “public service” and “Unions” has an automatic conflict of interest. We have an out of control bureaucracy because public servants are difficult to fire because of union protection.

>Why do state and federal workers need a union?

How else are the elected & connected to launder $$$?

Where else BUT govt does it ‘make sense’ to be the employer, ‘negotiating’ w/ the union(s)...on behalf of the piggy-bank\taxpayers? Can you say ‘conflict of interest’??
