Good Gal With A Gun Stops Wannabe Cop-Killer

A woman carrying a firearm shot a man who assaulted a police officer in Dawson County, Georgia, on Tuesday.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, 52-year-old Sgt. Randy Harkness gave a homeless man a ride to a local Chevron and planned to give him a little bit of money. However, the homeless man began physically assaulting Harkness and, according to the Dawson County Sheriff, may have even tried to reach for his gun.

Luckily, a gun-toting woman sitting in her car at the Chevron witnessed the attack and got out of her car to shoot at the suspect. The sheriff’s office said she hit the homeless man at least once.

“She shot off a round. The guy got off the police officer and she shot another round and he was running that way I think, there was three shots,” said Aseem Kahn, the owner of the gas station.

The gunfire caused the homeless man to flee across the street to a McDonald’s, where he punched an elderly woman in the face and tried to steal her car. Several customers at the restaurant subdued the man and held him down until police arrived.

“They are the heroes because they kept him from injuring anybody else,” said Sharon Cheek, the shift manager at the McDonald’s.

“It could have been worse, mate, thank you for that lady who was carrying,” Kahn similarly said.

The homeless man is still at the hospital and will be facing charges for his brutal attack.

Sheriff Jeff Johnson said the woman is a “hero” and asserted that she saved Sgt. Harkness’ life.

Liberals are so compassionate letting the mentally ill roam the streets inside of being in an institution.

Can we *please* build some mental hospitals and get these unfortunate—and dangerous—mental patients off the streets?

That used to be how we handled the mentally ill. The ACLU and their ilk opened the doors and created the homeless crisis.

Illiterate "journalists." He either stated or contended. To assert implies unsubstantiated. This statement is certainly substantiated.

If I recall correctly, that all started during JFK’s administration. Mental hospitals in that era were pretty dreadful. But, dumping crazy people onto the streets was a terrible idea, brought to you, as you correctly stated, by the ACLU.

Today, it is very difficult to get an involuntary admission, even when it’s clearly necessary to protect the patient as well as the rest of us.

There is the one in Washington, it’s unfortunately at capacity (100 Senators, 435 Representatives).

Yes, but look at all of the jobs that move created. How many agencies have been established to deal with these unfortunate people? If they were all in one place getting the kind of care they need, probably 2/3 of those social workers, et al., would not be needed. And how many organizations gin up lots of donations supposedly to be used for the homeless?

It’s all “community treatment centers” now. That means the cannibals are all loose on the streets.

The guy got off the police officer and she shot another round...

The officer on the ground was no doubt pleased with her trigger control when she shot at the guy who was on top of the officer.

Roaming instead of in an institution? You can thank Ronald Reagan for that. His Republican group shut down not only psychiatric hospitals but half way houses. I know you know what a psychiatric hospital does (dx and tx and research if they can) but half way houses were “manned” by men and women with the training to help men and women who could not keep on a medication schedule and who could be talked “down” from whereever they got to that caused them to do what we call crazy stuff. What a disaster the loss of the hospitals and half way houses has been and it continues to today.

Now, I am a conservative and have been for 60 years and I was fairly young when Reagan did that closing of all that was keeping the insane and mentally ill from your doorstep. It would be a very good idea to reinstitute all of it.
