A person making $1 to $10K is taxed at 10%. Ok. Self-employed pays that now and then some. People who have jobs have their personal exemption of what, $12K? So why does anyone have a problem with that?
And, what about capital gains and dividends? Isn’t that what middle-America is invested in - not just the 1%? Stocks, housing, business assets, real property, etc? Seems it would be a good thing to drop taxes on all that at a time when the tail end of Boomers are getting ready to retire and probably down-size.

50% of the people in this country pay no income tax....some actually get a return even though they paid nothing!!!! Talk of low income workers getting taxed is ludicrous....one cannot get a tax cut if one pays no taxes!!!
That increase in equity increase that nurses 401(k) and it also lowers the local tax burden by increasing retirement funding.
I’m middle class and I’ll save $4k in taxes under the plan.
I guess I’m supposed to invest that in the markets for a capital gains tax shelter. But since it’s after tax savings I probably won’t. I’d rather spend it than submit it for another round of taxation.

That’s the key and folks like Roberts seem to be of the mind that we’ll never get rid of the DC Nobility (of which he was a part during the Reagan years) so the whole economic system is a failure or it wouldn’t be so corrosive to the political system, if you follow that.

Start with term limits. And shuffling bureaucrats from job to job and agency to agency to keep them out of "power".
State Legislatures selecting the Senators from each State is in the unamended Constitution while term limits aren't. It seems to me Amending the Constitution as often as not makes things worse and term limits would require an Amendment, right?
It may require an amendment. If you can think of another way to do away with a permanent political class that is so corruptible, I’m listening!
