When Dulcie was 93 she was still living in her own home and driving from OKC down to West Texas or up north to MO in her little Honda.
Then she broke a femur....and 6 months later, while out for donuts, broke the other leg right above the knee. That ended most of her independence. She was living in a assisted living facility here and got around beautifully in her wheel chair, but then stuff started happening and now she’s bed-bound. I hope your mom can stay independent for as long as possible!
Been to Moonstone beach LOL
Long story
Payers for you and yours
Mom is getting feeble; trouble moving around. Several health issues; some imagined but many real. She stopped driving a while ago, but fortunately there are enough of us around to take care of her.
The memories don’t fade when loved ones are involved. :(
I’m glad y’all live close. We didn’t and she was so determined to be here whenever possible that she kept the highways hot. :)
I think selling her car was even more traumatic than selling her house. That she took quite well.
Thank you, MY.
Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
Howdy, LUV.
Y’all have been in my prayers since you took Dulcie to live with you and those prayers continue in earnest. *HUGZ*
Thank you, radu! I think we made the right decision this evening. No more meds being forced on her when she can barely swallow, no more exercise that hurts and morphine to ease the pain that she clearly has but can’t articulate.
Hope you had a fine day! Has it started your cool-down yet? Can you believe it was nearly 80 here today and it’s supposed to snow on Wednesday?? LOL!
It does sound like the right decision. From things you’ve said the past few days, it doesn’t sound like this is something she’ll snap back from like she’s done so many times before. She’s been a real trooper for a long time.
Dang, y’all had 80 degrees? We weren’t that warm but still not bad .... upper-60s here. But the wind has been howling all day ahead of the front that’s getting ready to start moving through.
Dropped the girlies off at the vet clinic this afternoon. After supper, I decided to go ahead and get the groceries tonight rather than tomorrow night. It’ll be cold and windy then. BRRR! The usual Wed. schedule for shopping is out for a while since I plan to help out at the military museum on Wed.s.
I feel good about this decision. The last thing we want is for this sweet lady to be miserable when she doesn’t have to be. And we cancelled that dr appt for her. it was pointless at this time and we didn’t like the idea of getting her out in bad weather.
I hope your girlies do well with their procedure. Hope it’s not too nasty when you have to go pick them up!
Best wishes, Luv. We have our weekly fun in your threads but that is a diversion from more serious matters. All the best to you.
I’d forgotten about the dr. appointment. With the weather as bad as it sounds like it will be, getting her out in it might have made her really sick. The last thing she needs right now is pneumonia.
Holli and Sophie should be fine. I don’t expect a repeat of Willow’s performance last week.
It’s supposed to still be raining tomorrow afternoon when I go to pick them up and the temp will have dropped quite a bit. At least the car has a good heater. Being inside cats, they don’t have heavy coats.
Thank you. And I do look forward to another of your cute, clever answers tomorrow night. :)
I know you have probably gone to bed, but I want you to know that you made the correct decision.
In hospice her pain will be addressed immediately, and will help ease her crossing over.
I love you and Mr Luv VERY much, and will keep you in my heart and prayers.
Are you still up?
*crossing fingers*
With her being so weak, she couldn’t have sat up in her wheelchair to even get to the doctor’s office. :(
I wonder if the sisters had horror stories to tell these girlies about what was coing to happen. LOL!
I’m not in bed yet, Sis, and I appreciate your prayers and your love.
I’m reassured by the comments that I’ve gotten from you [and my other FRiends] that we did the right thing. Thank you! ((((hugs))))
Howdy, MS.B!
Yep, I’m still up. Just finished giving a few cats their midnight snack.
