That’s my point; why have a real live person doing the ASL, when you can have it done as closed captioning?

*Disclaimer - I am not deaf, but am a bit hard of hearing, and I use the CC on my TV all the time. Turning it off just for sporting events (as the words always tend to cover up the action).

I hear just fine, and often have CC on just because some key dialog is often muddled in other noises, and to subtly get the kids to read more (associating spoken with written word).
