I don’t care whether he intended to pay taxes on that money or not. I don’t care whether he intended to use that money for “legitimate” purposes or not. It was stolen by law enforcement, and I’m glad he’s getting his money back. I hope he will also recover damages. Stealing is not okay, not even when government officials are the ones engaged in theft.

Exactly. And more to the point, even if he had been paid in cash for gigs and wasn’t “intending” to pay taxes on it, no crime would have been committed until he filed a fraudulent tax return by not reporting the income, up until that time, he did nothing illegal it was no one’s business, including that of the police. Unless we are now into Minority Report territory and arresting or punishing people for “pre-crimes”.

I’m not a fan of Sessions’ stance on Civil Liberties, or Trump’s for that matter.

Sessions is good on immigration. Other than that, he’s like every other Congress critter. It’s only that one issue that sets him apart. Congress is so bad on immigration that there are only about a dozen, maybe two dozen GOP House members who have reasonable positions on immigration.

Congress could put a stop to Civil Forfeiture at any time.

CF is one of those things that people in the future after it’s gone will have a hard time understanding how it was ever allowed to begin with. Like Slavery or Prohibition.

I hope the judge also made the police pay his legal fees.

LEOs take an oath to defend, protect and uphold our Constitution. What the hell ever happened to that? Instead they now blatantly break the law and keep the rewards. Guilty until proven innocent?!

Believe your answer lies in the 1st acronym you wrote: law-enforcement officer. LEOs work as the collection arm for the GOVT, *NOT* the public servants of by-gone yesteryear.

Unions, collective bargaining, blue-wall, lie to US but illegal in reverse and, as this, not only the approval of but the PUSHING of violating Rights....

We call this “Felony Extortion” and every Public Servant on scene belongs in PRISON for LIFE!!!

In Mexico, they call it mordida.

“The so-called musician had nefarious purposes for that cash. Undoubtedly. BUT, the Wyoming Judge was completely correct in ordering it returned.”

I disagree. Some people just don’t trust banks. Besides it is every patriotic American’s duty to pay as little tax as possible because the more money that flows into government the less freedom we have and the more that gets stolen by graft.

I am sure it was more that he didn’t want to report the cash as income and I say, God bless him.

cops used to get a lot of assets on forfeiture. When i worked for the CYA in Stockton, we loaned our dogs to the Sheriff. They got a big score about 3 months later and asked us what we needed. Computers and a small truck were on the table. i took the truck and we converted it to a canine vehicle. It wasn’t in our budget. It was a transfer from the sheriff’s department, all I had to do was add it to our equipment list. . No one ever came back to us for the vehicle.

What was the original stop for? Sounds like a cut&dried violation of the 4th and 5th by Uncle LEO.

The main highways through Utah and Wyoming are major drug traffic routes. The cops use even the tiniest violations as an excuse to pull over vehicles, especially those with out of state plates. If they are denied access to the vehicle they will call in the drug dogs.

There's a reason I love you. This is that reason.

Common sense is not so common nowadays.
