Cliven Bundy refuses to leave jail amid ongoing trial.
FOX News ^

Cliven Bundy, the 71-year-old rancher who sparked a national debate over states’ rights, refused a federal judge’s offer to be released from jail during his ongoing trial on Wednesday.

Bundy, who engaged in an armed standoff with government agents over a cattle round-up in 2014, turned down the judge’s option of house arrest while others involved in the standoff are still in jail awaiting trial.

A federal grand jury in Nevada indicted Cliven and four others on 16 charges related to the armed standoff near his ranch over unpaid grazing fees last year.

U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro, meantime, said Ammon Bundy and co-defendant Ryan Payne can be freed Thursday to home detention.

The judge also said another Bundy son, Ryan, can now split time between home and a halfway house while serving as his own attorney in the case.

The decision involving the four defendants came amid questions about whether federal prosecutors in Las Vegas have turned over complete evidence records to defense teams.

Bret Whipple, Cliven Bundy's attorney, told Fox News that a motion to dismiss the case entirely on Wednesday morning was denied. The court then unilaterally had a detention hearing regarding custody of the defendants.

It was subsequently granted that Cliven Bundy, Ammon Bundy and Ryan Payne be released from detention for the duration of the trial.

There is strange... and then there is really strange. This case is really, really strange.

As just one example of how strange this whole thing is, "The court then unilaterally had a detention hearing regarding custody of the defendants." How do you have a unilateral hearing, especially in an ongoing criminal case?

On whose motion was his release ordered? Since it was 'unilateral', was the other side's lawyer not allowed to attend?

This case gets stranger every day.

In addition, lawyers following this agree any conviction in this forced non-jury trial of the stacked 'less than 6 month possible sentence' charges will go to SCOTUS and cause that whole policy and former decision to be reversed, regardless of stare decisis.

I'm in favor of the Rule of Law, not armed insurrection, but this whole case has been legal BS,

Not strange to deep-staters who are terrified at their lawyers dragging Uranium One into this. They totally get it.

this is just speculation nothing more. he might think he is safer in jail...he dies and if there is wrong doing in the governments case the light of a trial does not bring attention to it.

What does Uranium One have to with this particular case? I agree it’s a big scandal, but I don’t see the connection.

I do not see Uranium One in this.

Let’s not take eyes off main target here, very possible prosecution misconduct.

I can see Bundy feeling that he’s less vulnerable to assassination while in custody.

Either that or he's afraid the feds will plant guns, drugs, child porn or whatever in his residence during one of the mandatory "home confinement" searches, then bust him for violating the terms of his home confinement and be able to keep him locked up even if he's acquitted of all these charges.

To believe the government is some singularly controlled hive-mind is a bit too conspiracy theorist minded for most people.

It is not likely that these attorneys have any concern or have been warned of any behavior related to Uranium One.

Because the next headline you will read is, “Cliven Bundy was killed today in a freak cattle stampede at his ranch. Authorities say the 16 bullet holes found in his head and torso were NOT contributing factors in his death”.

What does Uranium One have to with this particular case?

Well....

In All the Talk about Clinton’s Uranium One Deal, Why Is No One Talking About the Malheur Documents Found by the Bundys?

"In September 2011, a representative from Oregon Energy, L.L.C. (formally Uranium One), met with local citizens, and county and state officials, to discuss the possibility of opening a uranium oxide (“yellowcake”) mine in southern Malheur County in southeastern Oregon. Oregon Energy is interested in developing a 17-Claim parcel of land known as the Aurora Project through an open pit mining method. Besides the mine, there would be a mill for processing. The claim area occupies about 450 acres and is also referred to as the “New U” uranium claims."

Oregon shootout rooted in Clinton uranium trade?

"What he does point to, however, is a U.S. Bureau of Land Management notation that’s titled, “Uranium on BLM-Administered Lands in OR/WA,” that talks about a May 2012 presentation from Oregon Energy LLC to develop a uranium oxide mine, in concert with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, in “southern Malheur County in southeastern Oregon,” Rappoport wrote."

I wonder if he is concerned that if he leaves jail, he will be “Hillaried”?

While they might be so bold as to kill him while he is in jail, it is much easier to do so out in public.

He possibly feels that way but the article says he’s refusing release while others involved in the case remain in jail. Bundy is a man of principle.

How much property does Bundy own?

A pretty good size plot where he was doing cattle ranching.

Something about needing Bundy’s land to offset the Uranium mining land.
