WASHINGTON Of all the State Department employees who might have been vulnerable in the staff reductions that Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson has initiated as he reshapes the department, the one person who seemed least likely to be a target was the chief of security, Bill A. Miller.
Republicans pilloried Hillary Clinton for what they claimed was her inadequate attention to security as secretary of state in the months before the deadly 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Congress even passed legislation mandating that the departments top security official have unrestricted access to the secretary of state.
But in his first nine months in office, Mr. Tillerson turned down repeated and sometimes urgent requests from the departments security staff to brief him, according to several former top officials in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Finally, Mr. Miller, the acting assistant secretary for diplomatic security, was forced to cite the laws requirement that he be allowed to speak to Mr. Tillerson.

Smells like winning to me.
It is a cesspool worse than Hollywood.
It’s always the same with the Slimes. With all leftists really. Just play the race/misogyny* card and close discussion.
*or homophobic, or islamaphobic...., etc. as the case may be.
Wait! I thought Tillerson was one of the adults who was going to keep President Trump in line for the establishment.
What a loss to international diplomacy and the prestige of the United States! Such an irreplaceable talent!
The bloat of this unelected government in the State Department has been known for years; only Trump and Tillerson have shown the guts and initiative to start cutting the morass. Why the US needs such a massive onsite presence in every country (and many cities in those countries) in the age of the internet is beyond me. Next, move to bringing the CIA down to size and accountability.
Hahaha. Winning takes many forms. Hahaha.

So useless dips will resign if they sense their own Benghazi is possible at their useless post? I like it.
In the midst of the war in Syria and growing worries over a possible conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran, there is no confirmed assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs or ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt or Qatar. And as Zimbabwe confronts the future after the departure of Robert Mugabe, the department is lacking a confirmed assistant secretary for African affairs or an ambassador to neighboring South Africa.
I can understand the need to streamline the State department but why are these all unimportant positions given what's going on there?
Hired by Barry simply because they were blacks, Latinos and women, probably...
Note to New York Times: What did you think electing a new government was about? Or did you think the bureaucracy was the true government and elected government just the new babysitters?
Careful New York Times, your answer reflects your true understanding of the political nature of a democratically elected government of a republic.
The State Dept. has been an enemy to the Republic for 75 years.
By definition, ALL "affirmative action" appointments are less qualified than other candidates. Otherwise, there would be absolutely no need for "affirmative ACTION". Thus, when staff reductions are necessary, as is clearly obvious in the bloated State Department, the reductions will necessarily fall more heavily on affirmative action hires.
Anything that gets the striped pants brigade's shorts in a bunch is fine by me.
Do we really need these?? What do they do....Make copies??
—— struggled with diversity——
Interesting thought. The working staff of the department of State must be viewed through the prism of diversity. State has apparently never been adequately diverse.
The mission is not to be considered when the objective is diversity. A person hired for reasons of diversity has no need to work at all because the reason for holding the job is to create diversity.
Diversity is the enemy of America. We now have low unemployment so those holding jobs solely for creating diversity can be fired with no fear of increasing unemployment
The State Dept. has been an enemy to the Republic for 75 years.
State has been a stronghold of the Left in the U.S.A.
When Tillerson gets rid of the rest of these trough-feeders, send him packing too.
The article kept mentioning that posts are vacant without any nominations. What was not mentioned was the delaying tactics of the RATS who are maximizing the time it takes to process nominees. McConnell gets plenty of blame for this by not recessing the Senate. By preventing recess nominations he’s the major source of the roadblock. The swamp king is protecting his kingdom of muck.
