Rand Paul’s Wife: ‘Troubled’ Neighbor Carried Out ‘Blindside’ Attack On My Husband
The Daily Caller ^ | 11/22/2017 | Amber Athey

Posted on 11/22/2017 10:37:33 AM PST by ForYourChildren

Rand Paul’s wife, Dr. Kelley Paul, eviscerated the media and the neighbor who attacked her husband in an opinion piece for CNN.

Senator Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, was the victim of a vicious attack on November 3rd. His neighbor reportedly tackled him from behind and left him with six broken ribs, three displaced ribs, a pleural effusion, and pneumonia.

Kelley writes in CNN that since the attack, her husband has not taken a single breath without pain.

“As his wife, I have been distraught over seeing him suffer like this,” she says. “There have been several nights where I had my hand on my phone ready to call 911 when his breathing became so labored it was terrifying.”

Sen. Paul’s neighbor, Rene Albert Boucher, has plead not guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge and his attorney has continued to argue that the attack was the result of a “long-running disagreement” over yard maintenance.

Kelley Paul slammed speculation by the media that the attack was over a trivial neighborly dispute involving things like lawn trimmings or gardening. One article in The New Yorker suggested the attack could be blamed on a rank smell coming from some gourds in Sen. Paul’s yard.

“It is incredibly hurtful that some news outlets have victimized Rand a second time as he struggles to recover, delighting in hateful headlines like ‘Not A Perfect Neighbor,’ and concocting theories about an ‘ongoing dispute,’ based on nothing more than speculation from an attention-seeking person with no knowledge of anything to do with us,” Kelley asserts.

By Kelley Paul

The average person takes 20,000 breaths a day. Since November 3, my husband, Rand Paul, has not taken a single one without pain. He has not had a single night’s sleep uninterrupted by long periods of difficult breathing or excruciating coughing.

As his wife, I have been distraught over seeing him suffer like this. There have been several nights where I had my hand on my phone ready to call 911 when his breathing became so labored it was terrifying.

Despite this, he refused to give in to the pain and was determined to fly back to Washington last week to do his job. As we walked through the airport returning from D.C., he was shivering with a 102.5 fever, and the next morning his internist diagnosed pneumonia in his damaged lung.

It is incredibly hurtful that some news outlets have victimized Rand a second time as he struggles to recover, delighting in hateful headlines like “Not A Perfect Neighbor,” and concocting theories about an “ongoing dispute,” based on nothing more than speculation from an attention-seeking person with no knowledge of anything to do with us.

The fact is, neither Rand nor I have spoken to the attacker in 10 years (since before his wife and children moved away) other than a casual wave from the car. Nobody in our family has, nor have we communicated with anyone in his family. With Rand’s travel to D.C. in the last seven years, he has rarely seen this man at all.

The only “dispute” existed solely in the attacker’s troubled mind, until, on a beautiful autumn day, he ran down the hill on our property and slammed his body into Rand’s lower back as he stood facing away, wearing noise canceling headphones to protect his ears from the lawnmower.

This was not a “scuffle,” a “fight” or an “altercation,” as many in the media falsely describe it. It was a deliberate, blindside attack. The impact left Rand with six broken ribs, three displaced, pleural effusion and now pneumonia. This has been a terrible experience; made worse by the media’s gleeful attempts to blame Rand for it, ridiculing him for everything from mowing his own lawn to composting.

This Thanksgiving weekend, instead of playing golf with his sons or enjoying our annual touch football game with family and neighbors, Rand will be in pain. But we will still be grateful for the love of our large and supportive family, and for the encouragement and prayers of hundreds of kind and thoughtful people during these last weeks.

Simple: When you are young, your ribs are made out of rubber. When you are old they are made out of porcelain.

Rene Albert Boucher, has plead not guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge and his attorney has continued to argue that the attack was the result of a “long-running disagreement” over yard maintenance.

As a lawyer, how can you plea "not guilty" and in the same sentence call your client's actions an "attack"?

I fail to see the relevance of this. Once one "neighbor" physically assaults the other, then the "disagreement" becomes "assault".

He along with the media seem to be trying hard to to make this about the yard. How many people brutally assault their neighbor for yard issues?

Also, doesn't the lawyer's statement seem to imply that it is ok to assault your neighbor on "long standing yard issues"?

Nope. This loser will get paid under the table by one of the Dems or Soros front groups.

The damage has been done. I predict Paul will not finish his term and will step down before the mid-terms.

I'm sure the hate-Paul wing of FR is yukking it up though.

A property dispute is of course no justification for an assault which would be better characterized as attempted murder.

I think that the only defense for this lunatic is metal illness, but the defendant’s lawyer has stupidly based the justification for the “assault” on a “long running dispute” which implies a valid reason.

Paul will own this guy.

Never played football, have you.

Full run into the back, striking unobserved, even a 120lb female can bust ribs of the victim.

You can add Antifa and BLM to list of violent liberals. muslims are democrats too so may as well add their violence to the list too. Demos are by far the most violent people. Really no need for other proof of that after knowing what they do to unborn babies.

It’s not surprising, without guns we’d be much more vulnerable targets for their violent behavior.

“I’m sure the hate-Paul wing of FR is yukking it up though. “

While I do not always agree with the positions Senator Paul takes, I believe that of all 100 Senators today he’s about the only decent, principled one there. He will be the one who extends his hand and welcomes Senator Moore next month. As far as the attack he suffered, there just isn’t any way the attacker gets away with what he did. Money alone will not atone for what was done to him. The attacker needs some serious jail time.

Since he was ambushed, maybe he was unable to break his fall with his hands and that’s when the ribs were busted.
