Banning breathing would work quickly.

Rocket man might push them to the point they feel they have nothing left to lose.. i.e. The defecting soldier.

If his father and grandfather never pushed them to the limit I doubt this guy would make them change. Remember this is the guy who executed his own family.

If they ban dancing, we’ll have to send in our secret weapon, Kevin Bacon.

Thats the only way our government has been able to stay in power so long. Stage 2 is pot and coke.

They have nothing to sing or drink about.
Saving face is what the ban is about.
Bet on it.
You over there, laying there nearly dead from starvation!
No drinking or singing!

They may well be running out of liquor too because of sanctions. This is a way to preserve what they have for Dear Reader and his friends.

The CIA needs to do their job and pinpoint this dude and make him and his entourage eat a bomb sandwich. To avoid an international issue, it has to be an accident. You know, like one of their underground military installations having a cave in with all the nations top leaders inside.
If this is done correctly, Kimmy Johns will just go silent and make no noise for several months before anyone finds out he's been dead. That's how we will know something unfortunate has become of him.

People's Cadet Haki Kapui shows juche-spirit while singing patriotically at parade.
However, he will be betrayed by a jealous comrade and executed for gargling in rank.

If the CIA did it (fat chance) it would be assassination,
which would put the US on par with Putin’s Russia. Not
that I would care, actually. Still, that’s no guarantee of a liberated NK.

Never saw the movie, but from the comments it looks like I should. Thanks.

The CIA should find an angry or worried Nork senior officer, and make it worth his while to find the shooter who’ll take him out. He might not need much motivation. As for the hope of freedom ringing to the South of the Yalu River, it’s unlikely. Would be nice, but everyone will have to just hope for a less egregious tyrant.

Most alcohol is a product of fermenting a substance that otherwise a food source like: wheat (whiskey/scotch), rye, potatoes (vodka), raw sugar (moonshine). Kim doesn’t want the ‘image’ of his elite cadre or middle management consuming domestic alcohol, a product If what would otherwise be food, while his people are starving.

No doubt, but he also orders executions via anti-aircraft gun...so better not to be ‘seen’ in defiance.
