I did not mention unions. Nor did I imply them. I was implying that an online university would partner with various employers and create a system similar to the one used by medical students who must complete their residency in a hospital

Now that’s funny. I don’t care who you are

It is prima fascia evidence of the ignorance behind the hands off cheerleaders

I suppose some people of a certain age think that watching a thing being done is the same as knowing how to do that thing.

I have watched glass being blown many times (in person and not on YouTube) but I don’t for a moment think that I could blow a wine glass.

Heat treating is not the art that glass blowing is but it is not far removed. It is very close when dealing with things knife and sword blades.

For online education to be effective and accepted by employers, the grading has to be real. I worked my bottom off for my MBA. Others in my “class,” who put little or no work in, got the same A I did. The difference was, I really wanted to learn something. I did practically every homework problem, assigned or not. The educations we got were unequal, but the grades were uniformly high. Consequently, I don’t think potential employers believed there was any value in my degree.

this is true in college and graduate courses whether on line or in the classroom. One of the reasons everyone is assigned to a group for group grades. There is no such thing as a bad grade anymore.

He said they would be bankrupt - not out of business. Government subsidies to this key Democrat voting bloc will save the day. :)

Well, what was the girl’s field of study? Did she need to be proficient in algebra or any higher math? Did she go on to success in her chosen field?These schools demand students take classes they will never use. I know of a similar situation where the girl could not pass algebra. She was working toward becoming a kindergarten teacher. In some cases I’m all for getting past the unneeded classes any way necessary. Is it right or fair or ethical? Probably not, but neither is forcing unneeded classes just to employ professors or wring a few more bucks out of students.

Put Bernie Sanders’ wife in charge.

She has a knack for this.

Show them your next plumbing bill or car repair bill. Be sure to point out the 3 figure/hour labor charges. Then compare that with an annual salary of 60-80k at a 2,000+ hours worked during a year...

I think you meant tenures. But yes. I agree. A huge part of the problem.

“I see their campuses turning into retiree housing and playgrounds.”

A neighbor of mine is retired but still teaches a course at U. of Maryland. He mentioned to me UM has closed several dorms and converted them into hotel rooms. The reasoning being more students were going on-line for their education which still required the students to do only two weeks of campus teaching.

si·ne·cure noun noun: sinecure; plural noun: sinecures a position requiring little or no work but giving the holder status or financial benefit. synonyms: easy job, cushy job, soft option;

Actually I did mean sincure but tenure works too.

Are there enough Taco Bells and Burger Kings to employ all of the faculty that will be displaced?
