Grassley says blue slips won’t veto Trump’s judicial picks
The Washington Times ^ | November 14, 2017 | Alex Swoyer

Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles E. Grassley signaled this week he won’t adhere to a strict “blue-slip” policy for judicial nominees, clearing the path for Republicans to install some of President Trump’s picks over the objections of home-state Democrats.

Mr. Grassley said the blue-slip tradition was intended to make sure the president consults with senators about judicial picks from their states, but wasn’t intended to give those same senators an absolute veto.

“A senator can’t use a blue slip to block a nominee because it’s not the person the senator would’ve picked. The president gets to nominate judges,” Mr. Grassley said on the chamber floor Monday.

I call BS. I’ll believe it when I see a strict Constructionist going to Cali or Minnesota or New York etc.

Whether Trump passes legislation or not, his selection of federal judges, repeal of Obama’s illegal EOs, and protection of the Constitution alone makes him a major success.

Chairman Grassley’s life expectancy just went down. But good on him if he follows through.

Now if we can just get the Turtleman to schedule actual votes. IMHO, the “five judicial nominee votes in one week” was a ONE-OFF. Where are the five judicial votes for THIS week? Or for NEXT week? Or for the WEEK AFTER NEXT...and the FOLLOWING week?

Turtleman is not scheduling them...he’s too busy trying to prevent UNCORRUPTABLE people such as Judge Moore from being elected to the Senate.

Agreed...That 5 in one week has to keep happening, only Mitch controls the votes on the floor.

Good, because the judiciary need to be remade, and the blue slips tradition is idiotic.

Excellent! If Trump is right on track with anything, its judicial appointments. Very good to see.

That is not Legislation (law) as we know it because as easily as an EO is signed it can be revoked.
