UN climate talks head towards deadloack as trust deficit widens

With the first week of the UN-sponsored climate talks drawing to a close, the trust deficit between rich industrialised and poor developing countries that has for long marred the negotiations appears to be back in some measure. The co-operative spirit that underpinned the talks at Paris and Marrakech seems to be fast receding.

Unlike the Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, which requires that beginning in 2020 all countries take measures to tackle climate change, in the pre-2020 period, the onus is on industrialised countries.

The pre-2020 actions also includes the voluntary efforts that poor developing countries took on to slowdown global warming in the 2010 Cancun Agreements, the promise of financial support ($100 billion by 2020) made by rich industrialised countries in Copenhagen, and support by developed countries to developing countries in the form of technology and capacity building assistance made in the Bali Action Plan.

>>The co-operative spirit that underpinned the talks at Paris and Marrakech seems to be fast receding.<<

Their co-operative spirit was “hey, let’s all work together and screw the US!!”.

The whole fraud will begin to fall apart now that we’re no longer willing to be their hapless mark.

Liberals, have to decide which way they want it; example Brazil, would they prefer they continue to de-forest their land or convert to hydrocarbons as their energy source? Can’t have it both ways....

Bureaucracy took a huge hit when it was revealed that the USAF couldn’t ensure accurate data accounting/entry which would have prevented a dangerous, deranged individual from obtaining and using a firearm.

The developing nations (including China) have been promised money many times if they’ll sign a climate agreement. That’s so Gore can claim that EVERY NATION (except the US) has signed on to the treaty. Most of those countries (including China) don’t care about AGW but if signing the agreement means $billions they are happy to sign.

But, they’ve signed a few agreements and not received what was promised in return. So they should be distrustful. They didn’t sign to limit CO2. They signed for $$$$.

...

True, but they are only screwing the law abiding taxpayer. Cronies set up crooked organizations to be on the receiving end of the money in the dirthole countries receiving it.
