Texas Church Shooter Claimed He Used Dogs As Target Practice, Says Former Colleague
Yahoo News ^ | November 10, 2017 | Hilary Hanson

Posted on 11/10/2017 3:48:54 PM PST by ETL

Jessika Edwards told CNN that she and Devin Kelley worked together at Hollomon Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 to 2012. Kelley was released from the military on a bad-conduct discharge in 2014 after serving time for assaulting his wife and stepson.

Edwards said that when the two made contact on Facebook in 2014, Kelley said he had been purchasing dogs through Craigslist and then using them for “target practice.”

While in the Air Force, she said, Kelley was preoccupied with mass murders and made jokes about killing people. ..."

In 2014, the same year he allegedly made the gruesome claim to Edwards, Kelley was cited for cruelty to animals in El Paso County, Colorado.

Multiple witnesses said they saw Kelley beating a husky with his fists before dragging the dog away by the neck, The Denver Post reported.

The county sheriff who responded to the incident noted back then that it seemed like Kelley was underfeeding the dog.

A woman who was his neighbor at the time told The New York Times that she remembers Kelley keeping his dog tied up outside in the sun with no water.

Kelley also had a history of domestic violence. The assaults that resulted in his Air Force discharge included striking his toddler stepson “severely enough that he fractured his skull,” according to the Times.

And the Sutherland Springs massacre occurred after Kelley had sent threatening texts to his mother-in-law, who sometimes attended that church.

Experts say that both cruelty to animals and domestic violence can be predictors of other forms of violence.

He came from a really poor family, right?

Uh...no he did NOT.

The family home is almost 4,000 square feet on 28 acres and has two big out-buildings:

Nice pool.

He apparently lived in a converted barn. That cream colored building on the left I would imagine.

You sure that’s his family’s house?

However, he apparently lived in a converted barn on the property. Probably that cream colored building on the left.

NY Times? I'm not buying it.........According to that article, the shooter's father was Michael Kelley, a computer programmer and accountant.

That's not the type of house such a person would be able to afford in a community such as that..........

It might very well be but the NY Times isn't known for its accuracy in reporting..........

Scenes from New Braunfels home of church shooting suspect

American-Statesman Staff
Monday, Nov. 6, 2017

Devin Patrick Kelley, the man identified as the shooter in the Texas church massacre, lived outside of New Braunfels in his parents’ home in a rural ranching area, according to numerous reports.

The family home on FM 2722 is midway between between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake in the rolling limestone hills of the southeastern edge of the Texas Hill Country. A driveway into the property is blocked by a ranch gate. Since Sunday, Comal County deputies have secured the drive.

The Kelleys’ 3,711-square-foot home sits on 28 acres, according to Comal County tax records. Twenty-six of those acres are designated as native pasture land and receive an agricultural exemption from property taxes, leaving an appraised taxable value of  $487,220 for property owners Michael and Rebecca Kelley.

Aerial video of the property photographed by the Statesman’s Jay Janner on Monday shows a sprawling ranch home with multiple outbuildings and a pool:
