Trump in Vietnam says U.S. will not 'surrender our sovereignty' in trade agreements

By Ray Downs | Nov. 10, 2017 at 2:46 AM

Nov. 10 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump took the stage at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam Friday and said the United States will no longer "be taken advantage of" through trade agreements.

"The U.S. is prepared to work with its Asian allies to achieve mutually beneficial commerce," Trump said. "I will make bilateral trade agreements with any Indo-Pacific nation that will abide by fair and reciprocal trade. What we will no longer do is enter into large agreements that surrender our sovereignty."

Trump's speech largely focused on how countries should exercise their national sovereignty and get the best trade deals they can for their citizens, which he said was a principle that U.S. leaders haven't followed. But he also blamed other countries and the World Trade Organization for not follwoing conditions inscribed in current agreements.

"Organizations like the WTO can only function properly when all members follow the rules and respect the sovereign rights of every member. We cannot achieve open markets if we do not ensure fair market access. In the end, unfair trade undermines us all," Trump said. "The United States promoted private enterprise, innovation and industry. Other countries use government-run industrial planning and state-owned enterprises. We adhere to WTO principles on protecting intellectual property and ensuring fair market access. they engaged in product dumping, subsidized goods, currency manipulation and predatory industrial policies."

He added: "Such practices, along with our collective failure to respond to them, hurt many people in our country, and also, other countries. Jobs, factories and industries were stripped out of the United States."

Trump's speech ended with a call for patriotism to all nations.

"Finally, let us never forget the world has many places, many dreams, and many roads. But in all of the world, there is no place like home," he said, adding: "Protect your home, defend your home, love your home."

Every speech President Trump makes is another, now familiar to our ears, verbalization of the mindset of Donald Trump.

Outside of being President, he has an entire life of successful experience using the building blocks he describes in his speeches.

Somewhere on youtube is his speech in Viet Nam and it's like being at one of his campaign rallies.

Thank you, Mr. President.

It is a good strategy. The globalists spending so much money trying to make sure every country does not fight each other is a complete expensive failure. We should strive with good relations with that and this country, period, instead of trying to run things for their own peace under a globalist management umbrella. We will never being blackmailed for help and welfare if we do not, completely ignoring our own flock and internal morality.

We cannot achieve open markets if we do not ensure fair market access.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Reciprocity is NOT isolationism, as most lefty scumbag politicians and fart-meister RINOs would have us believe.

I am glad the Presiden t is making this point. Bilateral trade will be reciprocal and of benefit to both parties.

You won’t allow US products into your country, well we will not allow your’s into our country.

Kudos to the President!

“What we will no longer do is enter into large agreements that surrender our sovereignty.”

McConnell and Paul Ryan will not be pleased.

Listen to Trump's speech.

He's talking AMWAY concept(s).

If we all (all us nations) consider ourselves first (national sovereignty) but negotiate between each other with respect and offer goods and fair deals without trying to "get over", we can all achieve our dreams. (listen to the speech).

Trump was always too busy making money, but if he had been freer in the day, I think he'd'a been a love hippy.

Pass it around.

I married a Filipina and I am SO anxious to learn of President Trump's visit with President Roa Duterte.

They really ARE two peas from the same pod, except President Duterte is not hindered by ANY political correctness.

Duterte to obama

Same here, and all my in-laws dig Duterte. They also pine for Marcos, who for all his faults and his wife’s excessive shoe collection, kept law and order, without which you don’t have a country. They detested the globalist, Clinton-loving Aquinos.

God Bless Donald Trump! He is truly focused on what needs to be said, and what needs to follow.

It is not easy to turn the world back to the reality, which pseudo intellectual "sophisticates" have been trying to suppress since 1946.

Google’s bastardization of that video with randomly inserted ads renders it nearly unwatchable.

This is the crux of it. Private companies in the US are competing with state backed companies overseas.
