The Corps secret agents get their own 007
Individual Weapons project officer Gunnery Sgt. Brian Nelson prepares to draw the M007 concealed carry weapon. The M007 offers enhanced concealed carry capabilities, which includes a smaller frame, ambidextrous slide stop lever and flared magazine well. Marine Corps Systems Command recently fielded the M007 to Marine and civilian CID agents and members of Helicopter Squadron One.
MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- The Marine Corps is equipping Marines with a new weapon, providing enhanced concealed carry capabilities at an accelerated rate and lower cost to the Corps.
The Glock 19Mcalled the M007 by the Corpsreplaces the M9 service pistol for personnel requiring a weapon that can be easily concealed.
The Marine Corps requires that all accredited Marine Corps Criminal Investigators, both civilian and military, be armed with a concealable pistol when on duty in civilian attire. This concealed weapon capability ensures those performing official dutiessuch as law enforcement or security personnelare not readily identified as being armed.
The M007 has a smaller frame and is easier to conceal, making it a natural selection to meet the Marine Corps conceal carry weapon requirement, said Gunnery Sgt. Brian Nelson, Individual Weapons project officer at Marine Corps Systems Command.
In coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which adopted the weapon in 2016, the Corps fielded the M007 earlier this year to Marines and civilians in the Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division, as well as members of Helicopter Squadron Onealso known as Marine One.
Aside from concealability, the M007 has several physical improvements over its predecessor. The grip lacks finger grooves but has a textured frame, improving the ergonomics of the weapon and providing a consistently comfortable grip with traction for a wider range of users. The ambidextrous slide stop allows for both right- and left-handed use. The magazine release of the M007 can also be changed and the magazine well is flared, making the system easier to reload, said Nelson.
Collaboration between the product team at MCSC and the FBI played a key role in the Corps ability to hasten the otherwise lengthy acquisition process.
The fielding of the M007 is an example of how we can streamline the acquisition process by reviewing another service or agencys test data to see if it fits the Marine Corps need, said Lt. Col. Paul Gillikin, Infantry Weapons team lead at MCSC. We received the initial request for a new concealed carry weapon system in April 2016. By collaborating with the FBI, we were able to procure, establish sustainability plans and start fielding the weapon to Marines by May 2017.
Typically, the acquisition process of a new weapons systemfrom the time the requirement is received by MCSC to the time the system is fielded to the fleettakes months, if not years, to complete. By leveraging thorough test data performed by the FBI, MCSCs team reduced their own testing time. The team also carefully planned to ensure the M007 is fully supported, sustainable, and meets all logistics and safety requirements, enabling MCSC to meet and deliver the concealed carry weapons systems Marines need in a relatively quick turnaround time, said Gillikin.
Program Manager Infantry Weapons, which falls under MCSCs Ground Combat Element Systems portfolio, manages the concealed carry weapons program for the Marine Corps.
Happy 242nd Birthday tomorrow, Marines!
Isn’t the Army’s new M18 good enough for ‘em?
Its kind of a passive Guardian Angel-esque measure, Wade said. Certain Marines will be armed at all times.
This would be known as the Trump impact. Arming our military and certain Marines will be armed at all times.
Kid, you’re gonna shoot yer eye out with that thing.
We don’t need any more of the Army’s hand-me-downs.
Forty years ago we got their old 2 man sleeping bags. We never could figure out what we were supposed to do with them.
But, what about COLON Kaepernick?
Head, Jar Head......
Happy Birthday and Semper fi to my brother Marines!
Is Glock factory installing Ameriglo sights now? They’re across town from Glock USA, so it would make some sense. I know Ameriglo’s owner, he lives a couple miles away.
The Army grossly over-spec’d the M17/M18.
Pistols are the LAST weapon you’d want to have to use, but the Army put $600 million to this program and that doesn’t include all the precursor contests: Combat Pistol, Joint Combat Pistol, et al.
The Glock 19 was really the best all-around solution (IMHO) without the need for multiple aborted and unresolved RFPs and competitions. A simple, off-the-shelf solution that works marvelously everywhere its been tried.
My opinion, of course.
I’ve seen Glock 19 Gen 5’s with Ameriglo sights from a local gun shop. I called the shop the other day for a quote on one. I guess they’re being installed by Glock or a middleman.
I used to have an offer for his cost. I need to give him a list and sneak over to their shop and re-do the contents of the gun safe.
Hey, I’ll send you my list to add to yours. LOL
Glock 9 is a great gun. Not sure I’d call it slimmed down for CC. For someone with a big frame, yes. For smaller framed folks like myself, even inside the waist I am pretty sure it prints. But I’d rather have it print a little and have the large capacity mags than go slimmer and lose half the mag capacity.
Meh. I have a Ruger SR1911, and it’s plenty concealable!
Ameriglo sights are what the FBI wanted on their Glock M17s and M19s, and the Glock Gen 5s are just the FBI contract Glocks without the M rollmark.
Gen 5 Glocks are available with Ameriglo sights as optional, so you will see some Gen 5s with, and some without.
“Isnt the Armys new M18 good enough for em?”
No, that was a committee compromise, designed for doggies and chicks and other undesirable elements.
And this trendy appendix carry thing is idiotic. In the wold of people who have car wrecks, slip on the icy sidewalk, spill their coffee etc...pointing a pistol at your nuts, Mr. Johnson, and your femoral artery is looney.
I’d much rather get one in an ass cheek.
Bear Creek Arsenal just announced they are stocking JRC Carbines. Current ad has one in 10mm. Nice pair with the SR1911. Also offered in 45Auto.
