Trump Arrives In Japan, Says Expects To Meet With Putin During Asia Trip

U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Japan after telling reporters aboard Air Force One that he expects to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his 12-day Asia trip.

Trump landed at a U.S. air base in Tokyo early on November 5 after flying in from Hawaii, where he met with U.S. troops and visited the site of the December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

On the eight-hour flight from Hawaii, Trump said he expects to meet with Putin at some point during his Asia journey, which will also take him to South Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

"I think it's expected we'll meet with Putin, yeah,” Trump told reporters.

“We want Putin's help on North Korea, and we'll be meeting with a lot of different leaders," he said.

He added that North Korea was a "big problem for our country and for the world, and we want to get it solved."

One possible location for a meeting would be the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Danang, Vietnam, on November 10-11.

The North Korean nuclear crisis is likely to be the main topic of talks with leaders during Trump’s Asia trip, starting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Before holding talks, the president played a round of golf with Abe and Hideki Matsuyama, one of the world’s top professionals, at Kasumigaseki Golf Club.

Abe and Trump also had played golf in February at the president's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

While at the Yokota Air Base in western Tokyo, Trump and his wife, Melania, met with some of the 50,000 U.S. troops who are stationed in Japan.

In a speech to service members, Trump said that "Japan is a treasured partner and crucial ally of the U.S." and he spoke of American military strength.

He did not mention North Korea by name, but warned of crossing the "most fearsome fighting force in the history of our world."

"Together with our allies, America's warriors are prepared to defend our nation using the full range of our unmatched capabilities. No one — no dictator, no regime and no nation — should underestimate, ever, American resolve," Trump told the troops.

Japan’s leader has been a strong ally in support of Trump’s hard-line policy toward Pyongyang.

"Trump only has to play golf in Japan, as he knows Japan will follow [the United States] whatever happens. Everything has been sorted out beforehand," Tetsuro Kato, political scientist at Tokyo's Hitotsubashi University, told the AFP news agency.

Trump will also travel to South Korea for talks with President Moon Jae-in, who has generally pressed for a diplomatic, rather than military, solution to the North Korean nuclear crisis.

Trump at one point called Moon’s policy “appeasement,” angering many within the South Korean administration.

After South Korea, Trump will travel to China, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

I do think he’ll meet with Putin.....if or not it’s reported or when.. and how transparent might be another story.....or he may just be saying this to rattle Fat Boy all the more.

The whole idea is to maintain and continue to add pressure pressure pressure....and with certainty Fat Boy’s feeling it!

If he wants to put pressure on Kim Jong-un, he will make it opaque. That would certainly rile liberals back home but Kim Jong-un further.

As another FReeper said, the President should let the press see him slip an envelope to Putin.

There’s so much that is structured around Pres. Trumps Asian tour.....we all need to be alert to changes and events at this time both here and abroad....just be aware of leaders movements and who they’re seeing. Saudi’s move today was perfectly timed in this.......so I just say we should all be watching carefully.

It is true that geopolitical puzzles are all interconnected even if each piece is far away from one another. What happens in Saudi has certainly bearing on events in Korean Peninsula. Apparently Trump initiated global reshuffling of geopolitical puzzles. But, there are those in D.C. who are unhappy with his move.

BTW...liberals are in such a self inflicted heightened state of sensitivity even when nothings happening that it's pretty much a matter of how far ‘off the deep end ‘they will go when there is. As has been said the problem they have is not only can't they control this administration but they haven't any idea just what's going to happen next because Trump plays moves they cannot anticipate....he's most assuredly an outsider still.

Indeed.....Saudi’s move affected way beyond its borders..and heavily impacted the International Money flow...which we haven’t seen the fallout from as they’re all trying to ramp up their investments etc. before they take the hits next week and beyond.

Those upset in DC are likely those who have investments affected by what’s happening in one form or another...and likely also fear of being exposed.

Trump is repudiating the legacy of Bushes, Clintons, and Obama, regarding ME and China. No wonder two Bushes were hopping mad and came out to denounce him.

Yep....that’s it too...I figured when Trump won the election the Bushes wouldn’t be silent for very long....the number of heavy hitter players here and on the World Stage is mind boggling ...and as much the revenues legal and otherwise they’ve got on the tables Trumps pushing over.

I still recall Newt laughing and saying as he spoke... that Trump wasn’t just going to move things around in Washington...he was going to throw the tables completely over!

People here on FR really need to give Trump the time needed to position and do the work we’ve asked him to do.....they forget how involved International Leaders and their government officials are in the deep corruption of our nation and it’s leaders. Trumps been working very hard at locating where the funding is that’s creating the cahos and corruption in our nation and much of it is coming from other nation leaders and their government officials....unfortunately International Laws protect them so Sessions has been busy in that arena to make certain we’re secure when the hammer comes down.... .....and contrary to what most think Russia isn’t the worst of the worst pulling things off this nation and it’s people.
