Climate change is hurting craft breweries
CBS "News" ^ | November 1, 2017 | By IRINA IVANOVA

First it came for the wine. Now, climate change is set to put a damper on the world's supply of beer.

Small breweries in the Pacific Northwest are struggling with a shortage of hops, a key ingredient in beer. Washington, Oregon and Idaho grow almost all the hops in the country, according to the US Department of Agriculture, and those states have seen increasingly harsher droughts over the past few years.

Two years ago, an unusually warm winter led to widespread drought in Washington's Yakima Valley, a situation that could repeat itself this year. Scientists say these warm winters will likely become standard in another 50 years.

"We are reaching this kind of tipping point," said NASA climate scientist Joshua Fisher. "What we've been used to in terms of how much rain we're going to get and how plants grow is no longer the norm."

Dozens of breweries have signed on to a "Brewery Climate Declaration," agreeing to take steps to limit climate change such as using renewable energy sources in their production process.

“Climate change is hurting craft breweries”

They are casting a wider net until they find something white people really care about...

Here in Southwestern Idaho, we have a very wet winter last year and are expecting another one this year. Our irrigation year was normal.

More fake news.

What is probably happening in Wet Washington and Oregon:

Farmers are plowing up their hops plants and planting the green stuff people smoke.

Gorebull warming is not causing this problem.

We’ve had odd weather as well - but it isn’t necessarily new (or bad). Over the past few winters south NJ seemed to get more snow than the north; OK by me (in the north).

When everyone and their dog is brewing beer you’ll have a shortage of hops

If my buddy can grow hops in his backyard in Illinois, maybe they need to import.

They never even hint that — if Global Warming were true — maybe Canada or Siberia would be a burst of agricultural activity and suddenly citrus fruit from Alberta would be all the rage and Yakust Hops would give you great beer.

They never allow that this is possible, because they don’t care about supplies. They just want to raise taxes and push for de-industrialization.

Good grief. A shortage of hops is what most craft brew needs to be drinkable.

I’ve posted on related threads that this BS is to get Westerners to voluntarily accept a lower standard of living (without realizing their elites are forcing them into it). Going forward, the following will be the privilege of the few: Children, detached single-family homes, and personal vehicles. This is already obvious to many people under 30.

A couple thoughts come to mind:

1. GMAFB!!! These people are REALLY desperate and reaching, if that’s all that they’ve got to convince us about “climate change.”

2. Oh, sure, reduced production at tiny little craft brewers in the Pacific Northwest is a good reason to junk Capitalism, and let the mentally unstable tyrant-wannabees of the uber-Left control our society. Gotta have that craft beer!

Shortage? No mention of the huge increase of micro breweries and the increased demand for WA hops? Oh yeah, about that.....

A lot of those “craft breweries” have put out gallons of dreck, anyway. No big loss. They can make corn whiskey if the climate warms, like Kentucky and Tennessee. Of course, they’d probably mess that up, too!
