NEW YORK — Several pedestrians and bicyclists were run down by a vehicle in Lower Manhattan Tuesday.
Sources tell Breaking911 that the vehicle – possibly a box truck – drove down the bike path on the West Side Highway near Vesey Street on Tuesday afternoon 3:20PM. Additionally the NYPD is reporting that the victims may have been shot as well.
From photos emerging from the scene, it appears that the truck slammed into multiple vehicles and was brought into a stop. The suspect is in custody. Police are reporting that a firearm has been recovered. It is believed the suspect was shot.
The NYPD Bomb Squad is clearing the entire area away from the box truck.
Multiple FDNY-EMS are on scene treating the victims.
NYPD reports that there is possibly two victims DOA.
One NYPD Officer is being transported to Bellevue Hospital. His condition is unknown.
This incident has been declared as a Mass Causality Incident (MCI).
Expect heavy traffic in lower Manhattan on the West Side Highway and the FDR Driver. Traffic is reportedly gridlock as both highways are closed.
Meanwhile, the latest report is that this may have been the result of a road rage incident.

Radio now no danger. They build the bike paths sounds like a special lane, to be safer, and there's no guarantee. It doesn't really sound that much safer; my granddaughter uses them in LA and Chicago and I worry about it. And it's another safety issue for off-road bike paths, for men and women now. But I'd better stay on topic here.

If you look at some of the photos of the scene and look at Google Map at that intersection, you can see the bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Hudson Street on the north side of the intersection.
