Syria denies being responsible for sarin attack

Syria said on Friday that a United Nations report accusing it of using sarin gas in an attack on the town of Khan Sheikhun in April was a "falsification of the truth", AFP reports.

The report, seen by AFP on Thursday, says that President Bashar Al-Assad's regime is responsible for the April 4 attack in which sarin gas projectiles were fired into Khan Sheikhun, a rebel-held town in the Idlib province of northwestern Syria.

More than 87 people were killed in the attack, which was not the first time that sarin had been used during the civil war in Syria.

"Syria categorically denies the content of the joint report between the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons," said a statement released by the foreign ministry in Damascus.

"This report and the one that preceded it are falsifications of the truth and distort the exact information on what happened at Khan Sheikhun," it added.

The Syrian statement, quoted by official media, denounced the "method of investigation", saying it was based on "the words of the criminals who committed this immoral act in Khan Sheikhun and on dubious witnesses".

The ministry further claimed the UN report was written on the basis of "instructions from the U.S. administration and Western countries to exert more political pressure" on Damascus.

The Syrian regime denies having any connection to the April attack and, in general, to any chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

I tend to believe the Syrian government in this matter. They had nothing to gain and everything to lose.

We know the moslem dogs are capable of anything, including killing innocents to further their cause.

I don’t trust the UN or Assad on face value. They’re probably both lying. How? I dunno, but presume everyone guilty.

Every previous instance of use of chemical weapons has been Isis.
I have no reason to think this time is any different.

I tend to believe the Syrian gov in this matter

I have all along. Remember the first chemical weapon usage? The argument given was that it had to be Assad's gov because ISIS didn't have knowledge or access to chemical weapons. We know that isn't true.

What I'd like to know is how much responsibility the US has for training, financing, arming, and enabling "rebels" who were in it for the ISIS agenda.

I think Obama supported the so called "arab spring" and this Syrian revolution was part of it. A consequence of our support was the formation of ISIS.

Obama tried to overthrow the entire middle east and turn it over to the radicals (his people). He failed in Egypt and so far Syria. Succeeded in Libya. Good thing Hillary lost or we'd have ended up with a consolidated middle east with nukes.

Still might, but less of a chance with an American president.

Also an excellent presumption. They’re all suspects until specifically and undeniably acquitted.

The last two times gas was used in Syria it was just as likely or more so that it was one of the opposition groups that used as they had overrun a base with a stash of the poison gas. Cui bono? suggests strongly that it was not Assad.

Yeah, but Assad knows that, too. So maybe he figures that he can take out a Kurd village and everyone will figure it’s ISIS. Or maybe the UN a$$-holes wanted to know what it feels like to commit mass murder, if it’s like sex or something, so they slip Assad or ISIS a few Euros and he or they let(s) them take the sarin and use it. Every case, assume everyone’s guilty.
