Dems need more than 'meh' in Virginia race
Fox News ^ | 10/19/17 | Chris Stirewalt

If Democrats can’t deliver a win in Virginia’s gubernatorial election 19 days hence, they should shut down and reopen as a haunted house.

“See the spine-tinglingly campaign finance reports!!! Hear the bloodcurdling voicemails from Debbie Wasserman Schultz!!! Smell the horror of a goat cheese and red-pepper hummus sandwich one of the interns left downstairs!!!”

Republicans have done well in recent cycles in gubernatorial races in Democrat-leaning states. Massachusetts, Maryland, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey and Wisconsin are all presently governed by Republicans. So it wouldn’t be all together shocking for a state that had a strong Republican lead until about decade ago to replace Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe with a moderate Republican in the person of Ed Gillespie.

Seeing a lot of coverage today why Dems could expect a defeat. Also, second graf is too funny not to share.

I can’t imagine Dems losing since they didn’t even go for trump. Had they gone for trump, I’d have hope.

Yes, but Clinton and other Dems haven’t won by much. It’s always a battle between NOVA and ROVA.

I was in Virginia for a week and the the ads were sleepers..

You could not tell who was a Dem or a RINO unless you were from there

Terry McCawful, I’m assuming he’s not running due to some sort of term limit?

What is that POS going to do next?

A poll released yesterday shown Northam ahead by 4 points. It’s the first poll that has Gillespie within the margin of error.

I can't see a GOPer winning!

TRUMP couldn't even win VA!

Virginia Governors can only serve one term.

Well...Ed Gillespie is the R after all. The only reason I'm voting for him are the commercials Dr. Northam ran bragging about his support for abortion rights.

Gillespie does not excite anyone. That said, we really do need to get out and vote for Gillespie, Vogel and Adams.

Course, then Quinnipiac predictably rushed out with a poll that showed Northam up 14.

It really says something about the current state of politics that the biggest drag on both candidates is that they are “party men”.

Virginia governors may serve two four year terms but not consecutively.
A former governor must be out of office for four years before being eligible again.

There have been only two two term governors in Virginia since 1830.
William Smith served his second term after Virginia seceded from the union.

Mills Godwin served as a Democrat from 1966 to 1970.
He served again as a Republican from 1974 to 1978, the only governor in US history to be elected by both major parties.

Linwood Holton, who served as governor from 1970 to 1974 was the first Republican to be elected governor of VA to win by popular vote.
Holton is also the father in law of krazy klown Tim Kaine.

Both parties have “meh” this time.

This is the strangest election, other than the ads, you wouldn’t know we were having an election. Few signs and no one is talking about it.
