Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain says the Trump administration needs to explain how four U.S. soldiers were killed in Niger. Bryan Black, Jeremiah Johnson, Dustin Wright, and La David Johnson were told not to expect enemy contact on that mission to meet with community leaders two weeks ago.
It will take an investigation to determine if any warning signs were missed, but Sen. McCain says the administration is not being upfront and he's demanding more information about the attack.
In a pre-mission briefing they were told "no enemy contact expected," but the group, about 40 in all, were attacked by militants, who the Pentagon now believes are part of an offshoot of the ISIS.
"The patrol that was attacked last week had actually done 29 patrols without contact over the previous six months or so. No indication that this was going to occur," said Lt. Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr.
Their attackers were described as "well-trained, well-equipped, and well-organized," and with no armed aircraft overhead to call on for air strikes against their attackers, the soldiers were trapped.
The first aircraft to arrive were French mirage jets.
"Were able to have close air support overhead about 30 minutes after first contact," McKenzie said.
But it was too late for sergeants Bryan Black, Dustin Wright, and Jeremiah Johnson who were mortally wounded.

McCain please shut up.
For crying out loud.
Let’s go back Mr. McCain. Obama put our guys in Niger on more than one occasion. Why didn’t Congress and including yourself...stop it?
ESAD, already, McNuts! You worthless POS!
Geebus just SHUT THE H*** UP ALREADY!!!!!
S—t happens s—thead.
No Senator McCain,
It’s CONGRESS and YOUR SUBCOMMITTEE that need to explain why we have troops on the ground in NIGER
I have HAD IT with this POS. Something needs done!
Any means to attack President Trump.
To be fair, McCain did push the Benghazi investigation.
You will die a pathetic vengeful ahole. Good job McNut.
No one should be listening to anything John McCain has to say anymore.
McCain knows this stuff happens. The operational brief they were given were not given by Trump, this is Pure McCain stirring up trouble.
It would be appropriate for Trump to request McConnell to have Senator McCain removed from the Armed services committee and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee.
Shame he wasn’t like this for Benghazi.
2500 Military died under Obama, McCain never said one word..
He hasn’t been right in the head since the VC used him for their Boom-Boom girl.
Now is the time to stop being nice to McInsane, DJT.
How about Benghazi, Johnnie?
Who needs democrats when you’ve got republicans like John McCain. The media’s favorite Republican.
John McCain demands that someone else be “up front”.
That’s really funny.
from 2001 -2008 there were 564 American soldiers KIA during the most intense combat period of the war on terror.
With the war all but won by 2008, Obama’s sitting duck ROE resulted in 586 KIA from 2009 to 2010, only Obama’s is first two years in office
McCain broke faith with American soldiers and said or did nothing to try to force Obama to provide relief for America's military
