Chi Onwurah, the MP for Newcastle Central, has begun the formal process which could see shamed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein stripped of his UK honours. Harvey Weinstein.
“The allegations against Harvey Weinstein are growing by the day and it is imperative that we start the process of stripping him of his honorary CBE.
“This is about demonstrating that survivors of sexual assault and harassment need to be taken seriously – and it is also about ensuring that the economic opportunity of women is not constrained by the predatory actions of powerful men.”
The Labour MP has written to Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood to start the formal process of stripping Mr Weinstein of his CBE.
Sir Heywood chairs the committee, which decides whether individuals should have their honours removed.
In her referral, Ms. Onwurah highlighted Weinstein’s expulsion from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Her letter to Sir Heywood points out that ‘one of the criterion listed by the Government for forfeiture of an honour is if the individual in question is ‘censured or struck off by a professional or regulatory body for something directly relevant to their honour’.
Harvey Weinsteion is the man behind many Hollywood blockbusters but is now at the centre of an ever deepening scandal.
It follows a string of allegations of sexual harassment from women who have worked with him, including A-list actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Since the claims emerged the 65-year-old has been fired from the film company he founded with his brother and his wife has left him.
Weinstein has also been expelled from the Oscars organising committee who said the era of "wilful ignorance" on "sexually predatory behaviour and workplace harassment in our industry is over".
And if an empire has poor enough judgement to knight a sleazebag, shouldn't they have to live with that, as a reminder no to do that again? No backsies.

“Unless it is Muslims doing the rape and abuse” -unspoken but apparently quite active and approved of considering how the British authorities bent over backwards to NOT do anything about Rotherham and other known cases for years.
Just a question but has this POS been found guilty of anything or just accused ?

He blames “sex addiction” while simultaneously saying he both did and didn’t have sex with people in a quid pro quo.
In short, typical Hollywood sleaze.

The CBE is not a knighthood, it is an award. The U.S. Constitution (Article 1, Section 9) states the following:
“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State.”
Weinstein, as a private citizen, can accept awards from a foreign country. The British Crown and/or Parliament can choose to issue awards as they see fit.
Even for government employees, the Congress has passed appropriate legislation to them to accept awards and decorations from international agencies and foreign governments. The U.S. in return routinely presents awards to foreign military and civil servants for service that benefits the U.S.
Just accused, but the standard for revoking an award does not have to be a criminal conviction. They can revoke it at their discretion, in this case because the awardee had been publicly outed as a complete sleazeball.
In the UK Knights are not noble. The nobility begins with Baronets and includes Barons, Viscounts, Earls, Dukes, etc.
OMG, he’s Sir Harvey Weinstein? Ahahahahahaha.
Oop, CBEs don’t get the title of “Sir”. Too bad.
