CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. — A 25-second video clip recorded inside a classroom at Cliffside Park High School is being shared on social media and it has started a debate.
“…men and women are fighting. They are not fighting for your right to speak Spanish. They are fighting for your right to speak American,” a teacher can be heard saying to her class.
Students in Cliffside Park, a diverse community with a large number of Spanish-speaking students, immediately reacted to the comment. One even walked out.
"You're being racist," that student can be heard saying on the video. "I know how to speak English."
On Facebook, some former alumni are calling for the board of education to investigate the "discriminatory" behavior and the "belittling" of a bilingual student.

This nonsense has gone too far. Now it’s discriminatory to expect students to speak the local language. If the student who walked out knows English s/he should speak it in that class. We don’t need to turn this country into Babel.
They are upset about being told to speak American in an American classroom. This is BullSpit. F their culture, F their language, F their Mehican privilege. You walk out of class = suspension. Bring a Mehican flag to school = suspension. You stage a protest = suspension.
It's like the leftists who claim requiring ID to vote is racist, because Blacks are incapable of getting legal photo ID. They're just not capable, because they're Black. When you throw that in the leftists' faces, they get all in a huff. But that's what they're implying when they call voter ID laws "racist."

I actually am warming to “speak American.” It is quite different from “English” as they speak it.
So why were they speaking Spanish then? DISRESPECT.
Their ghetto patois was strong, and my standard deal was to feign misunderstanding and say “Sorry, I only speak human”, and I made them repeat their sentence correctly.
I never got in trouble for that!
