Trump, McConnell set for tense talks at Monday meeting

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is set to sit down with President Donald Trump Monday in a White House meeting that could help patch their relationship, which fractured in a big way over the summer, when the two leaders took shots at each other over health care reform and the effectiveness of Congress.

Back in August, Trump said he was “very disappointed in Mitch,” after McConnell said Trump had “excessive expectations” about the legislative process.

The meeting comes as conservative groups demand McConnell step down from his leadership role.

“We call on all five members of the GOP Senate leadership to step down, or for their caucus to remove them as soon as possible,” Ken Cuccinelli, the former attorney general of Virginia who now leads the Senate Conservatives Fund, said Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

We all know McConnell is stalling for time hoping the Dems can retake both chambers in Congress in next year’s elections. Turtle Man doesn’t give a damn about us. He’s protecting the Swamp.

Partner, you hit a home run on that statement alone.

A lot of Freepers can not believe that we have such a lousy Senate and House leadership after giving them the votes to win the leadership and not do a thing with the baton. These guys that we have do not know how to win period.

We will get the Rat party leading the Senate with Smerkula and Pelousy is they do not do a thing this year. So far, they have not accomplished good responsible leadership on the nation's ecomomy after 28 years of dismal economic leadership in the world.

The question isn’t, who isn’t a solidly pro-Trump senator. It’s who actually scuttled repeal and replace. And that’s McConnel with his feckless “leadership,” McCain, Murkowski and Collins. And for the time being, their presence will continue. That’s why I bring them up. So far, none of the distinguished gentlemen you mention have actively harmed MAGA, except for McCain, Collins and Murkowski, and McConnel. The rest voted for it, so shouldn’t get the guillotine for thinking anti-MAGA thoughts. Fratricide in the face of the enemy should not be done lightly. If we have the magic 60, McConnel might still be in the Senate, but he will not be the majority leader any longer, and the rest of them will not have their committee chairmanship, so they won’t be calling for a 70 majority any time soon.

And therein lies the answer to your question. McConnel wants to stay on as majority leader, and he knows that the conservative base is furious with him, so he’s begging Trump to pwease pwetty pwease wet him have one mowe chance. That’s also why he removed road blocks to judicial nominations going forward, as a peace offering.

If I were Trump I’d say, OK. You won’t get primaried in ‘20, but this is too little, too late. I’m throwing the issue of your continued leadership up to the caucus, and if the MAGA wolves rip you to shreds, it’ll be a good lesson to the rest of you RINOs, not that I’m taking sides, mind you. Have fun.

Remember the scene in The Wind and the Lion? He catches two bedouins drinking from his well without asking permission. They both beg for their lives. He beheads one and let’s the other live, explaining to his captive, the kids’ governess, that he had to kill one, or the other would no longer respect him. Lop off McConnel’s head. He is not safe, because he wants to stay majority leader. So remove him. Strange has been primaried and lost to Judge Moore. So now you have two heads lopped off. Let the others live. They’re up for reelection, and they’ll have to prove their MAGA bona fides to get any committee chairs and memberships or other perks of seniority, under the new majority leader, who should be a pro-Trump ball buster, the more hard core the better. Don’t know the makeup of the Senate well enough to hazard a guess. But if he’s still around and pro-Trump, Charles Nighthorse Campbell sure sounds sexy.

This time around. In 2020 when Murkowski, et al are running then those who passed safely this time around will cover for her then. They cover for each other — those who are running this time are covered by those not running because of short memories, momentum, etc. Ie Tillis and co. will cover for McCain, Collins, etc. So yes Flake voted to repeal and replace but he and others like him know they had the three you mentioned to cover for them. In another year Flake would’ve voted to not repeal and replace and your mentioned three would’ve voted to R&R if they were up for re-election that year.

However fair enough on the rest of your points. Don’t get me wrong of course McConnell is a huge part of the problem but even at 60 if he still has over 30 rino’s (which you would probably have now) still willing to vote for him as leader he would still probably be leader. Look at the dems they STILL vote for Pelosi and probably would’ve Reid if he hadn’t retired.

Not sure why it would be fratricide? Are we really that worried that if a rino lost a primary in deep red states like MS, AL, TN, AK, TX, etc. that the gop would not then win that seat because the rino isn’t in there? If so then the gop doesn’t deserve to be the majority party anyway because it would be very plain they could do nothing to advance the MAGA agenda.

None of the RINOs in the Senate can be touched in ‘18. Just the House.

No but there are 10 democrats up for re-election in states won by Trump. Just two of those make Collins and Murkowski irrelevant, any more than that is just gravy. Corker is not running. Marsha Blackburn will be a huge improvement. Jeff Flake is toast. And we haven't even started talking about the creeps that will be targeted by Bannon. The 2018 midterms are going to be very good for the Trump administration.

Primary all the RINOs and run good common sense Americans. Then get rid of these 10 democrats and we should be at 60+ Republicans in the Senate. Then more BOOM and MAGA!

Get involved early and do what you can locally. Fight On!

Ten Democrats? Teetering on the edge of the abyss? Leaning over? Oh, be still, my foot. Corker going means McCain can no longer decide the vote. Let Jeff Flake see to himself, I’m not propping him up. But primary-ing the creeps is problematic, because it’s fratricide committed on TV. That’s something the FSM will capitalize on, and scared creeps are prone to saying damaging things out loud, and the FSM will capitalize on that. I think Bannon would do better to discover dirt on the creeps, approach them in private, and offer to keep quiet if they drop out and let Candidate MAGA Fresh Face run instead. He’d avoid a primary, and avoid public disgrace and defeat because of the dirt he’s got on him.

Trump, McConnell say they want tax bill passed this year and quash talk of a rocky relationship

CNBC ^ | Oct. 16, 2017 | Jacob Pramuk

President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterated Monday that they want to see a tax bill passed by the end of the year.

“I really believe that we have a very good chance of getting the taxes done ... hopefully fairly long before the end of the year,” the president said in a hastily scheduled, roughly 40-minute news conference following a lunch with the Kentucky Republican.

McConnell added: “The goal is to get it done by the end of the year.”

I think Flake has probably got to go in the primary. He has no chance of re-election in the general with a sub 20% approval rating. If the rest vote for tax reform, a border wall, immigration reform, and stop stalling on Trump’s nominees, I’m fine leaving the rest alone.

So long as they play nice. Then you send them down a gently sloping incline towards their ultimate oblivion. That’s how you drain the swamp. Alter the surface grade.
