WASHINGTON -- US President Donald Trump wants a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff with North Korea and will continue to work on it "until the first bomb drops," his top diplomat said Sunday.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made the remark in an interview on CNN as tensions have heightened over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

"He has made it clear to me to continue my diplomatic efforts," Tillerson said. "Those diplomatic efforts will continue until the first bomb drops."
Trump appeared to undercut his top diplomat on Twitter early this month, saying Tillerson is "wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man," a reference to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
"Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!" he added

A. Tillerson should not asserting something that contradicts what The President himself has said.
B. Tillerson should not be talking to CNN. Ever. NO ONE in this administration should be talking to CNN. Ever. They should laugh in their faces anytime they request an interview about ANYTHING.

I don’t understand why we haven’t done something like that yet. It seems like a logical step to at least try. Ok it would have to be a person who would possibly die trying but certainly there are a ton of snipers who are patriots who would go on this mission. I bet we’d have a ton of volunteers in fact.

Yea, you’d kill Kim, but that would just validate what the North Koreans have been brainwashed all their lives to believe and someone else would take his place. A general, close confidant , or family member. It would be either worse, or the same.

Do that and you could get someone filling the vacuum that will launch all the weapons they have at Japan and South Korea the moment they have control of the military.
Just lip service, nothing to get alarmed about. There will be a regime change in Pyongyang. Hopefully, the national building and operation Korean freedom is kept to a minimum.
One 500lb bomb directed at Kim will be the solution.

Trump is simply stating the obvious, that diplomacy will solve the NK proliferation problem. The diplomacy may come before we bomb the crap out of them or after. The big picture is that diplomacy always needs to come before or after war. War without diplomacy is a complete waste. We learned that in Iraq and elsewhere.
No contradiction. Donald is bad cop. Tillerson is good cop. They are working together, hoping to keep the bombs from dropping.

The best solution would be some sort of coup in NK, followed by reunification with the South along the German model (i.e. N Korea goes away, the South takes over). The NK coup leaders get immunity and a cushy retirement.

On the other hand, Seoul probably has expert Kim shooters,specially selected and taught to take out the fat boy. I’m sure they’ll be happy to land Trump one. That’s what allies are for.

Seems like a trump sanctioned bit of clarity - nobody is eager for war, but the odds are that first bomb will drop and then North Korea gets a major face lift...
