How many people lives would be ruin trying to do this.

I dare say a lot more then the 58 dead on 500 hundred injured.

I would say tens of thousands would have their lives ruined trying to stop one nut case.

Islamists in communication with foreign agents of terror would still be exempt from investigation and prosecution.

No one will ever know how many terrorist acts have already been stopped.

I simply propose a total gun ban on democrats. 99.992% of the mass shootings, murders and Arkencide will be reduced.

Bear in mind that throughout the Obama presidency the FBI and other agencies were calling constitutionalists and former servicemen potential terrorists. Policing is as subject to fads and fashions as hemlines. While predictive analysis is not phrenology it could become our next conservative nightmare. All it takes is electing the right, or in this case, wrong, candidate as president.

Disturbing OP. The more actual facts I learn about the shooter the clearer it is to me that he constructed his own dis-functional reality and his actions made sense to him in that world. I also suspect he was tagged on the autism scale, probably in the area of asperger's.

there should be no doubt as to whether we will soon be able to avert mass tragedy in the same way that we evacuate entire cities in advance of a deadly storm.

Bad analogy about knowing where storms will hit land. Hurricane track predictions are notoriously bad -- Irma caused the Florida east coast to be evacuated and then went up the west coast. New Orleans was barely on the outside envelope of the Katrina path predictions. Climate models are even worse. So we cannot reliably model physical systems, but the author thinks we can model and predict human behavior.

Frankly, anybody who believes that ought to be locked up. They are a danger to society.

Exactly! Popped reading the first paragraph...

Good one! Beat me to it...

We could deputize the entire population and take turns watching each other? Born on odd number day? On duty odd days...Evens are on duty even...

Or, we could bring back the old ways...Do the evil deed and we hang you in the public square at high noon...Sell popcorn and beer! Make kids attend and learn from the example...

Wasn’t there already a futuristic movie in which the state/the police had this prescient capability? Pretty creepy, in my opinion.

I am willing to take the risk I’ll be a victim rather than Big Brother running my life.

I have a solution to this question on tracking people, have a particular one-time vote.

Make it a true will of the people, pure democracy. The questions, "should a central gov agency record all aspects - movements, purchases, associations, web searches, etc - of Americans"?

Being a direct vote, each person is connected to the ballot they cast. Count each vote with utmost care & precision. Do it again.

Track those that voted "yes"; they're the ones that are the problem.
