Less than four months remain until the opening ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, but sluggish ticket sales and lodging reservations could spell trouble for Korea’s first Winter Games.
The organizing committee for the Winter Games on Wednesday released preliminary numbers for ticket sales, which showed that 30.3 percent of 1.07 million tickets have been sold so far. About 20.7 percent of 760,000 tickets released to the Korean general public have been sold, while 59.7 percent of 320,000 tickets reserved for foreigners have been sold.
According to a figure released by Rep. Yoo Eun-hae of the ruling Democratic Party, the average cost of lodging in Gangneung and PyeongChang has jumped threefold.
I suspect so.
This is a travesty for South Korea.

I stopped watching the Olympics because of NBC combined with the time difference of the Seoul Summer games in the 1980s.
Now it's just the idiots at NBC. I get some Canadian channels and the useless NBC coverage has haunted me from even watching those channels.

Story after story meant to have you bawling on the floor for 20 minutes, and then 2.5 minutes of event coverage.

I do not care for this. It's directed at females, who just love feelings. It's offensive to me.

We could see at least twice the talent, if America's Got Talent would stop this type of presentation.

Another is that the NHL is not allowing their players to participate. Team USA will be made up of minor league scrubs who will likely get stomped by a Russian team from the KHL.
And as much as we like to dump on him here, the Salt Lake City games were on a collision course with the iceberg before Mitt Romney stepped in and righted things.
A number of the comments weren't kind for the lack of coverage of the competitive events.
Get it over with before the Olympics then.

This is weird - if demand is down shouldn’t the prices be falling? OR is it because the prices are going up that no one is willing to buy?
I mean other than the whole rocket boy thing, economically it doesn’t make sense.

Anybody crazy enough to travel to SK these days, should wait to reserve a hotel and purchase tickets until two days before the start. Guaranteed they will get great prices on both rooms and tickets.
That is such a negative statistic that it does raise flags (that it is true or not) or if there is a serious problem with attendance at these games.
