A U.S. official says the Mandalay Bay hotel casino didn't notify police that gunshots had been fired inside the tower until after a gunman opened fire on the crowd outside at a country music festival.
The official, who was briefed by law enforcement, wasn't authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday.
The disclosure means there was a delay of some six minutes in summoning police to the scene as the gunman began firing.

Still, that 72 minute delay in shutting the shooter down is completely inexplicable!
My uncle worked in a large hotel. He said management will ALWAYS opt for PR damage control over guest safety. Said if anything goes down get an outside line and call the police or fire department yourself, cause you can’t rely on them to do it.

Well, how could they report it BEFORE he opened fire? Jeez?
Supposedly there were 200 rounds fired at 9:59 at hotel employees. He didn’t fire on the crowd until 10:05

If I'm incorrect, so be it but their was a considerable amount of time when, again as I heard it, "authorities searched for the actual room where the shooter was firing and when broached, found dead."
Now I understand that the "authorities" knew, (from Campos, whom I guess now is NOT a "security guard") which floor and which room(s) he was occupying, so it was unnecessary to go floor by floor.

I think they are referring to the fact that shots were fired at security inside the hotel minutes prior to the attack on the crowd.
There were at least two police officers who got to the 32nd floor by approximately 10:17, less than 20 minutes after the gunman fired his initial shots at Campos, and about 12 minutes after he started shooting out of the windows.
The scene they found when they got there was of a wounded Campos, a long hallway and a door that a bunch of bullets had been shot through. Also, by the time they got there, the shooter had stopped shooting out of the window.
Because there was no shooting out of the windows anymore, and because the shooter had obviously shot down the hall at the security guard, the cops secured the scene and called for a SWAT team.
They apparently didn’t actually breach the room and go in until approximately 72 minutes after the shooting began. But again, the gunman had stopped shooting long before that.
If you want to criticize them for not charging down the hall and busting down the door right away, that’s fine. Personally, I think I would hesitate to do that, if it was me, and I knew the guy wasn’t shooting out the window anymore and may be sitting there waiting to shoot at me down the hall.
If you want to say it shouldn’t take them an hour after they arrived to secure the scene, set up the SWAT team and go in, that’s fine. That’s a different argument, to me.
But there were cops were on scene within 20 minutes, and the shooting had stopped by then. Considering the chaos outside (including multiple conflicting reports of shooter location, other shootings, etc.), and the fact that (I think) they had to run up 32 flights of stairs, I think the on-scene time was fairly reasonable.
All of the above is based on the information the authorities have released so far, and so it is subject to change.
So was THE HOTEL trying to keep it under wraps until the shooting out the windows started?
Were they aware that a major arms buy was going down? The hotel owner IS a muzzie...
And when things went bad either the guy OR ??? started shooting out the window.
And stopped and escaped after shooting the arms dealer?
Where is hotel video? they have video EVERYWHERE!
The LVPD SWAT accomplished diddly-squat in the Vegas Massacre. Diddly-squat.
I can guarantee the hotel’s lawyers are doing everything they can to make sure those videos don’t get released to the public. Even without seeing them, even if the videos don’t show anything wrong by the hotel, they still don’t want them out there.
I think the police performed well. They were on the floor 12 minutes after the concert shooting started. This was despite conflicting information about the location of the shooter.
If one of the two Mandalay employees on the floor had talked to police directly, it seems reasonable to believe that officers would have been able to arrive in less than 12 minutes and before Paddock quit on his own.
At that point, outgunned police officers would have had a tough choice to make. But that didn’t happen, in large part, because of the delay by the hotel employees.

That would be a suicide mission.
Joe cop has a vest that protects against 9mm, .40 and .45 bullets. MAYBE even .357. He is not issued a vest to protect against rifle fire.
I agree. But I am still hesitant to criticize Mandalay Bay based on the 6 minute figure at this point. That is an assumption based on a comment from an unnamed source. It could have been 4 minutes, which might be more reasonable. But it might have been 10 minutes, or even longer, which would have been an eternity under the circumstances.
Also, if we want a full picture, we need to know when the cops were first called by anyone, not just the hotel.
Apparently, most Vegas hotels do not have video in guest hallways. The rationale I’ve read: (1) too expensive; and (2) it makes no sense to have video unless you are going to actively monitor the video, which is (see #1, too expensive).
