Many children and families struggling with gender dysphoria are not receiving the facts about the permanent consequences associated with "experimental" puberty-blocking and sex-reassignment treatments, nor are they being told that justification for such treatments are not backed by strong scientific evidence, doctors warned Wednesday.
"Much of what is being done here can be considered experimental treatment," Paul Hruz, a St. Louis-based doctor who is a professor of pediatrics, endocrinology, cell biology and physiology at the Washington University School of Medicine, said during a panel discussion on transgender medicine hosted by the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation.
"But that is not how the public is hearing about this and [not] what the patients themselves and the families who are dealing with this issue are being presented with."
Hruz, who co-authored the June report published in The New Atlantis titled Growing Pains: Problems With Puberty Suppression in Treating Gender Dysphoria, and Dr. Michelle Cretella, the president of the conservative American College of Pediatricians, joined Dr. Allen Josephson of the University of Louisville and Heritage Foundation senior fellow Ryan Anderson to discuss the dangers and long-term consequences linked to the use of hormone therapy and puberty suppression treatments on children.
Although a number of mainstream medical societies and organizations have been recommending over the last decade that children who suffer from gender dysphoria be given a puberty-blocking drug and later be treated with cross-sex hormones before potential sex reassignment surgeries, Hruz said that "the evidence behind this new treatment paradigm is slim to none."

It makes no sense to me whatsoever that a parent would do that to a child unless there was a verified medical need for it. Unreal.

I believe that “puberty blockers” were originally developed for severely handicapped children. I had a client with an autistic daughter. She could not function. This, he hoped, would keep her safer.
I’m quite ignorant of FDA rules, but my understanding is that if a new drug has great potential for helping cancer patients, it may be many years before it is approved for general use. You can’t give the cancer drug to dying people because they might die. So for 5-10 years they experiment on animals and in careful trials to make sure that the dying people won’t be killed by the medicine that could save their life.
But sex re-assignment drugs? Open the floodgates! Give it to the kids! Hand ‘em out like candy! They are kind of experimental, and we probably haven’t sexually reassigned a lot of rabbits or primates, but what the heck? Give ‘em a whirl and let me know if they have awful side affects down the road!
I guarantee you when you introduce “special cause” variation into a naturally occurring process....there will be chaos.

It is not “sex-reassignment” surgery.
It is mutilation of a body where every nucleus of every cell of the body continues to cry out the body’s gender, regardless of the mutilation and regardless of the lifetime of massive doses of hormones and drugs.
It is all, 100% pretense to satisfy an obsession carried in a mind struggling with a mental problem, an identity dysphoria. It requires strong, compassionate, continuous and consistent professional help getting the young mind out of it’s obsession.
Yes, it’s a struggle akin to getting out of the worst addictions. The easy path, the comfortable path, just like satisfying an addiction is to satisfy the obsession. Yes, that is the path of least resistance, the “calmer” path. Yet, it is never 100% satisfying. The body does not lie about its gender, it’s written in every cell.
What young “transgender” persons need is not adults who will become the enablers of the obsession their child is inflicted with, but adults who will help them through the struggle to end the control of the obsession.

LGBT activism is terrorism perpetrated towards young people. These people should ALL be run out of town or otherwise agressivly dispatched.
I think in this case, all these drugs are just hormones that have long been FDA approved for other treatments. They are just applying the existing hormones in new ways, so since they are already approved for human use, it’s probably just a matter of medical ethics and not something the FDA is going to get involved in.

We accidentally came upon a pride parade in SF one year. Got stopped at a cross street and had a front seat view. I had to keep my little granddaughter busy so she wouldn’t watch.
I saw a doctor on TV that said giving puberty blockers to young children renders them infertile. All my life I’ve known people and doctors to say sterilizing people too young to make that life decision is wrong. What changed?

People die not only from lung cancer but also heart attacks, strokes, emphysema, and on and on yet now the push to get pot legalized in every state.
If smoking filtered cigarettes kills, what does smoking unfiltered weed do to anyone?
And what about all the deaths from second hand tobacco smoke, does pot smoke nullify those around the pothead?
In Orlando we have to watch where we go for our wedding anniversary as it falls on the same week as gay days at Disney.
With those who are so screwed up that they are going into this sort of experimentation that characteristic is probably net beneficial to society and to the continuation of the race i.e. removing gross errors from the gene pool. I would be less opposed to this transsexual crap if there were a requirement that all of them be rendered positively infertile.
