A Utah detective who was filmed handcuffing and dragging a nurse in July has been fired.
Jeff Payne, a detective with the Salt Lake City Police Department, was fired Tuesday following an investigation, Chief Mike Brown said Tuesday.
In a video filmed July 26, Payne, who was working as a part-time paramedic, asked University Hospital Nurse Alex Wubbels to draw blood from an unconscious patient, which she refused to do, citing company policy.
The detective had support from his supervisor, Lt. James Tracy, who said Wubbels could be arrested if she didn't allow the blood draw.
Payne eventually told Wubbels she was under arrest and physically removed her from the hospital while she screamed, claiming that she hadnt done anything wrong.
An investigation by a civilian review board found Payne had apparently become frustrated after a long wait to perform the blood draw and ignored the nurse's correct explanation that she could not allow it without a warrant or formal consent from the patient, who had been in a car crash.

What took them so GD long. I hope she sues the pants off the department AND the cop personally.
When does he start at TSA?
Not sure it is good news. The cop did the wrong thing, but his supervisor (who was not fired but demoted) is the guy who really should have been fired.
I really think that there is so much more to this story than we are being told.
The guy who they wanted the blood draw on was a reserve police officer in another State/jurisdiction. He was involved as a victim in an auto accident associated with a police chase.
I do not know what is going on, but suspect that they wanted to find some stimulant or intoxicant in his blood so they could try to say he was partially responsible for his accident. That is why they wanted to get the blood sample so quickly before his body metabolized anything. That is why I think they pushed so hard. I think they were trying to either cover something up or trying to nullify a likely lawsuit against the department and specific officers.
Pretty rare the comments over at Democratic Underground and Fee Republic actually all agree.
(Marking this day on the calendar as a sign of the apocalypse...)
Partially good news, the jack-booted thugs supervisor also needed to be fired, and criminal kidnapping charges should be filed against this a-hole. He should see the light of day in about 15 years. It would send a very good message to all of the other quislings who work there.
You are absolutely correct. I’m glad you remember the details from the original publicity.
This was a CYA thing for the police in the beginning.
The article doesn't say what happened to Lt. James Tracy. Other reports state that Lt. James Tracy was demoted.
Don’t forget what the motive was for this entire incident. That’s the worst part.
agree=apolcalypse lmao.
Couldn’t they have gotten a court order for the blood?
Took too long.
exactly - unless he gets his credentials yanked; hell just end up as another rouge employee at another PD, It is these sorts of govt employees that make life difficult for the decent guys trying to do the right thing every day on the front lines.
On what basis? The Court can only issue an order if there is probable cause to believe that the warrant will yield evidence of criminal activity. In this case, there was no evidence whatsoever that the truck driver had done anything wrong. The cops knew they could not get a warrant without filing a false affidavit. That was the whole reason they tried to strong arm the nurse.
> Couldnt they have gotten a court order for the blood? <
Early on in the video of the incident, the cop says to his partner that there is not enough probable cause to get a court order.
So yeah, a judge would have declined to issue that order. The cop knew that, but pressed ahead anyway.
“It is these sorts of govt employees that make life difficult for the decent guys trying to do the right thing every day on the front lines.”
The “decent guys” showed their true colors when they stood by and did nothing. They sided with the thug. Thugs wouldn’t exist if the “decent guys” didn’t tolerate them.

either the FBI, ATF or BLM will pick him up. He’s just their type of little tin god thug.
Maybe they had to go through an arbitration hearing if he was in a Union.
The cop was a jerk, but... if his supervisor told him that he could arrest then the wrong person was fired.
