The Turkish government is still in talks with Washington about the possible sale of Patriot missile defense systems, a senior Turkish official said Friday.

Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Öztürk Yılmaz, who visited Washington last week, told a group of Turkish journalists on Friday that Turkey contacted Americans about the Patriot systems two to three weeks ago.

The Turkish official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed Yılmaz's remarks and said that Turkey was routinely conducting this kind of talks and Turkish expectations on the deal has not changed. "For us, technology transfer and joint production are the necessary conditions for purchase," the official said.

What they are saying? I want your technology and Russian technology and I'll roll my own. (and insult you to your face)

How stupid do they think we are?

Now this is coming from the CHP, the Kemalist. A real threat to Erdogan's power.

Remember, one of the CHP leaders lead a march from Ankara to Istanbul not long ago under the banner of "Justice" (Turkish: "adalet"). 1 million people gathered near Istanbul at the end of that march.

How stupid do they think we are? Some times, we’re very stupid, unfortunately. We have a strategic air base there to keep closer to the southern Russian border, hence a bargaining chip on the part of the turks, who I believe are still a part of NATO (because of their locale and previous non-islamic government; that’s changed). We’ll see how this plays out, i’m not optimistic at this point.

Turkey is too unstable and power hungry to be selling them any more advanced technology defense / offense systems.

The illusion of secular Turkey has been incorrect from the beginning. They pay lip service only, actual facts are opposite.

But, Turkey under Erdogan has been a disaster for everyone. Either Erdogan goes, or eventually Turkey will not be part of NATO. On it’s face, the current Turkish government is contrary to the NATO charter. FACT.

... admission to NATO?
... admission to trading with the west?

The caliphate just wants to break out of history’s refuse bin, but has no productive contribution for mankind benefit. Just more savage piracy

This has been going on for a long time. On 09 Sept 2009 DSCA notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale of nearly $8 billion worth of Patriot missiles, fire units and associated hardware.

Their insistence on receiving all the technology and joint production has been SOP for a long time too, even though they’re aware that’s not going to happen.

They have signed similar contract with Russia. Under same terms.

Erdogan the Islamist is not an ally of the US or NATO. His government is totally incompatible with the premise NATO was founded upon.

Eventually, the US and NATO will have to evaluate this.
