Bergdahl’s guilty pleas won’t end the scandalous tale

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is admitting his guilt, bringing an end of sorts to one of the most shameful episodes of President Barack Obama’s tenure.

Bergdahl, who faced an Army court-martial this month, will plead guilty to the two counts with which he’s been charged: desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, the Associated Press reports. So much for Team Obama’s insistence that Bergdahl had served “with honor and distinction.” Even National Security Adviser Susan Rice’s claim that he’d been “captured on the battlefield” was untrue.

That happy talk — complete with a Rose Garden celebration — was an effort to justify Obama’s decision to purchase then-POW Bergdahl’s freedom by springing five senior Taliban officials from Guantanamo.

Suspicions still run deep that getting those prisoners out of Gitmo was the president’s true goal — since he couldn’t close the prison (as he’d long sought to do) unless he first emptied it out.

Tellingly, Obama failed to notify Congress, as he was legally required to do, before releasing the five.

In 2009, Bergdahl wandered away from his base in Afghanistan after months of discontent. He was quickly captured by the Taliban — triggering a massive manhunt in which several soldiers were seriously wounded.

It’s not known whether the guilty plea is part of a deal with prosecutors, or part of an appeal for mercy (time served, for example) that takes into account the five years Bergdahl spent in brutal captivity.

Bergdahl faces up to life in prison on the misbehavior charge and five years for desertion. Having acted “with deliberate disregard for the consequences of his actions,” as prosecutors charged, a stiff sentence would not be uncalled for.

That traitor will be lucky if rotting in prison for the rest of his life is all he gets. I wonder if he will call Barack Obama and Susan Rice as character witnesses?

Should make him serve the 5 years first then life. Don’t want that goldbrick loser to miss serving jail time.

First, I think there is some deal here...they will count the five years with the Taliban as part of this.

My bet is that it’s a twenty-year sentence with five taken out for credit. He does fifteen.

He was never suitable for the Army...had they just done ten minutes of research on his ‘wash-out’ from Coast Guard school, the Army would have prevented all of this episode...so I don’t give the Army a clean slate on this. This guy was never suitable for the team-work required. From what I’ve read...he’s got a behavior-level of a 14-year old kid.

What a ruse Obama when to in releasing Muslim terrorists.

Out elected showed their cowardice toward the color of a half-negro's skin rather than govern as elected to do. Beyond shameful to the American service men and women and American citizens.

What!!!???

Just last week Brian Fallon, the former spokesman for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign claimed:

“Tom Price and the rest of the ever- swampy Trump WH is a permanent reminder of how honorable and scandal-free an administration Obama ran.”

Bergdahl didn’t “wander away” from his base - he intentionally left his base and went in search of the Taliban.

No, he actively sought out the Taliban to join them. He was not wandering about aimlessly.

We need to stop referring to that a**clown as "Sergeant" Bergdahl. He's as much a Sergeant as I am Charles Barkley. Calling him Sergeant is a slap in the face to everyone who's ever worn stripes or chevrons. I'd love the privilege of ripping his bullshi'ite stripes off his sleeves before he's led off to prison. Worthless little faggot is a disgrace to the entire uniform, too. We need to burn his dress blues with him in them.

First of all, the worthless bastard didn’t “wander away” from his unit. He left his unit, seeking some raghead military to surrender to. He expected a big welcome and a hail, hail, the gang’s all here. But they don’t like traitors, just on general principles; so they roughed him up a bit. He deserves to die. Several troops died and more were wounded while searching for his worthless butt, to rescue him.

Pardoning Bradley Manning and inviting this pig's pony-tailed father to the Rose Garden were just two of the more "in-your-face" demonstrations of Obola's absolute contempt for our Armed Forces.

"Corpse-men" indeed!

He's in some pretty deep chit here.

Desertion is bad enough but I remember when this all started, one of the military contributors on Fox said that the "Misbehavior Before the Enemy" was the big one.

The government could have asked for the death penalty for that one and the general stated that that is usually what the government asks for in these cases.

Bergdahl might have made a deal to plead guilty for removal of the death penalty.

Something happened.

0 was trying to grease the skids with that "hero" and "serving honorably" chit but IIRC, six guys died looking for this whack-job.

That sort of stuff doesn't just go away...unless you're Hillary.

That traitor will be lucky if rotting in prison for the rest of his life is all he gets.

We've all heard it said, time and time again, that there's a "hierarchy" among prisoners that places rapists and child molesters at the very bottom...placing them in constant danger of retribution from ordinary murderers/embezzlers/bank robbers.

I wonder if there's a similar "hierarchy" at the Disciplinary Barracks at Leavenworth which places deserters and collaborators at the bottom.

I refuse to use the Fraud’s pet name for Robert Bowdrie Bergdahl.

We use all three names of the worst criminals, even when the first two are John Wayne....

Desertion in combat is less serious than misbehavior in front of the enemy? Seems like to me they should both be capital crimes. I volunteer to bring my rifle to the firing squad.
