Vegas Shooting Wouldn’t Have Happened at my Casino: Steve Wynn
New York Post ^ | October 8, 2017 | Marisa Schultz

Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn suggested Sunday that Stephen Paddock would have set off alarm bells at his properties had he tried launching his mass murder from one of them.

Wynn, namesake of the glitzy Wynn Las Vegas on the strip, said his housekeeping staff is trained to do a visual inspection any time they enter a room, adding that a “Do Not Disturb” sign on a door for longer than 12 hours is investigated.

It is a business opportunity for a lot of Las Vegas hotel/casino owners to try to paint Mandalay Bay as this insecure craphole and their own hotels/casinos as much safer. Does not hurt to get it out there so that next tourist reserves in your hotel/casino.

Now’s a good time to visit Vegas. Tons of deals.

I’ve called in my DND requests inviting security checks if necessary.

FYI, interesting tweet:

Why didn’t @WynnLasVegas turn out the lights at 10:05 in honor of victims? As you can see next door, @realDonaldTrump did. Kinda messed up.

a “Do Not Disturb” sign on a door for longer than 12 hours is investigated.

I would have thought this would be standard policy at any hotel just to make sure a guest hadn’t simply died in the room.

From all the films about Vegas over the years, with Hollywood portraying it like the mob guys are watching everything, you’d expect the hotels would be able to protect their guests from the riff raff of the real world. Just saying.

Couldn’t have been said better and more concise. Wynn got his 15 minutes and now some idiot will make him a liar at the expense of how many more innocents? But then again, maybe Wynn’s people are recording their guests where it is least expected, in their rooms.

I put up a do not disturb sign for any and all hotel stays—sometimes for entire week. I’ve only been told once that the hotel’s rules require visual inspection every 72 hours.

I don’t mind if hotel employees come into room while I am in the room...just don’t want them in room when I am not there.

I do understand there are safety issues to consider, I would just like to know policy in advance.

I saw his interview with Chris Wallace yesterday and I must say I was impressed with the behind the scenes security that takes place unnoticed.

He also went on to say that Paddock and his girlfriend lived out there for a number of years and were totally under the radar. Meaning, always paid their bills, gambling debts and no unusual behavior. Most notably, they never drank alcohol.......

The Wynn is pretty pricy. I believe it has a Ferrari dealership in the lobby

Can we please have a website that outlines and catalogs ALL hotel security measures? Maybe a separate one for government buildings and military installations. All the armchair strategists would like to be informed.

This happens at all the casinos. They go through the rooms and belongings once the people leave their rooms. Wynn knows this. This is just one of the many reasons Paddok story does not add up.

Whenever I see an interview with Steve Wynn, I watch it. I like his no nonsense style.

I would like to know more about him aside from his unashamed conservative politics.

I dunno. When I used to do academic conferences for 3-5 days, I frequently kept the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door until I left. I didn’t want someone in and out of the room, especially if I might be in and out during the day as I took breaks from the conference or worked on presentations. If I saw Housekeeping in the hall, I might as for more towels, but that’s it.

They can have the room when I’m done.

I would have expected a bubble cam on the ceiling in the room at a minimum, just like you see on the casino floor.

Still, Paddock would have been someone so familiar to the hotels that they might have instructed security not to watch him, that they’d observed him many times over the year and did nothing wrong.
