INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Vice President Mike Pence decided to leave the Indianapolis Colts game Sunday because some 49ers players kneeled during the national anthem.

In a tweet, the former Indiana governor said “I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.”

It was announced Friday that Pence would attend the game with the second lady. The game is special, because Peyton Manning’s jersey will be retired at halftime and he will be inducted into the Ring of Honor.

Before the game, he tweeted that he was looking forward to honor “the great career of #18 Peyton Manning.”

It’s unclear at this time which players decided to take a knee.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

I’m surprised he even went. I see those who continue to support the NFL as unpatriotic traitors.

I can barely believe this. I was already a Pence fan, but didn’t know that the size of his kahunas had been influenced by Trump to this extent...

Agreed... the NFL is a unit... the whole bunch needs to be taken out with the trash.

Sad because it hurts his Colts not the visiting, winless douchebag 49ers. But hurting the league itself is worthy enough.

I don’t see why he would go in the first place.

This is going to get attention.
For those not really following politics, Pence is mainly seen as playing “Good Cop to Trump’s Bad Cop”.

He probably went in knowing this would happen and thud would be his response. It’s simply bad press for the league

That is the only reaction.
The fans show apporoval by staying.
There is no excuse to not defend the flag by walking out

By going and leaving made an effective statement.

Pence has gone to a lot of Colts games as an Indiana congressman and Gov. Pence knew they 49ers would likely do this and his leaving is a powerful statement.

Nice going Pence! Winning...

Pence has a son in the military. That the players would take the knee with VP Pence in the stadiums is beyond the pale. How could VP and Mrs. Pence possibly stay there, when players who are paid millions of dollars to play a game show such disrespect, while their son risks his life for the country?
