The man in the natty suit smoked a cigarette, ordered a bourbon and soda and carried a bomb in his briefcase.
He sat in the rear of the passenger cabin on Northwest Orient Flight 305 from Portland to Seattle. Shortly after takeoff, he slipped the flight attendant a note explaining his intention to hijack the plane. Calmly, he put on a pair of sunglasses, demanded $200,000 in ransom and directed the pilot to land in Seattle. Once on the ground, the hijacker let 36 passengers exit, accepted the $200,000 and instructed the pilot to fly to Mexico.
On Nov. 24, 1971, a man who had bought a ticket using the name Dan Cooper – and later was misidentified by the Associated Press as D.B. Cooper – parachuted mid-flight from the rear exit of Flight 305 and straight into American folklore. It is the only unsolved case of piracy in the history of U.S. aviation. Today, 46 years after that Thanksgiving-eve skydive, three facts about the identity of D.B. Cooper are true:
1. A team of 40 volunteer sleuths (many of them retired law enforcement investigators) has named Robert Rackstraw of San Diego as the person they believe to be the fugitive.
2. The actual FBI has closed the case July 11, 2016 without reaching any conclusion.

This hijacking is an American legend, for a whole bunch of reasons.
Wow, I didn’t realize there was so much more to the story...and so much more yet to come.
I hope Cooper is never found.

In other news, it was reported that the third alien managed to live through the Roswell crash and escaped the wreckage. It has managed to live on the land in the Sangre De Christo mountains. Although the relentless New Mexico sun is thought to be harmful, The large eyes have adapted.

This entire case has always been interesting. The only way it could have worked was by “insider help” and FBI help or ignorance.

The story itself gives it away as BS.
So his associates on the ground were waiting for him when he jumped?
Tell me how they knew where he would land?
How did he know where he was?
Even a highly skilled civilian pilot who knows exactly where he is at any given moment would not have the information on winds aloft accurately enough to land on a targeted spot.
True that an experienced pilot knows exactly what the winds are at his altitude, but wind varies significantly both in speed and direction between jet flight levels and the ground.
For that information one needs very careful briefing from a meteorologist.
For Cooper to land at the spot where his cohorts waited, the pilots and air traffic control would have to be a part of the scheme so the flight path and the altitude would be exact and the jump would occur at the exact instant required.
I am surprised that someone who did or does night jumps in the military has not commented on this story.
So when the telling of this tall tale says his guys were waiting for him on the ground with their pickup,,,,,,,

I vividly recall someone claiming to be DB Cooper posting on FR the day after he jumped with that $200k.
Nonsense.
He’s 73 and would have only been 27 in 1971.
Sketch is of a man older than 27.
Then he screws up the story by saying he first heard of DB when he was 14.
Nothing adds up.

Really? I read he was down in South America with Hitler, JFK, and Elvis.
On another mystery...I saw a 2-hour show a while back on the History Channel about the guys who escaped from Alcatraz. It convinced me that the 2 brothers at least, probably survived, and I’m pretty hard to convince about these things. Check it out if you can find it.
I saw that show also, but my conclusion was different -— it seemed to me more likely that they missed their landfall and got washed thru the Golden Gate and out to sea by the strong outward tide.
