America’s “Red Guard” is expert at looking stupid, and they sure don’t like being confronted. In fact, we marveled at how fast fat could move. They’re probably infused with survival of the fattest genes.

The latest victims of the Left’s strategy of destruction and reconstruction of America are the monuments to the soldiers and generals of the Confederacy.

Statues were dropped like a hot potato once liberals realized 'this version of the race card' WAS NOT WORKING.

If some young reporter wants to win a Pulitzer they should track down who bought the tiki torches for the nuts to carry... and who organized the 'event'. I'm betting it can be traced back to white liberal elites...SPLC or George Soros or 'intelligence' types working for democrats..

Yeah, there are some crazy people on the right - but they don't do tiki torches or organize in predictable left-wing fashion.

When we say it was about slavery we are assigning a modern simplistic interpretation to the event.

When people say the Civil War "was about slavery" they may mean that the divisions between North and South that eventually produced the war were caused by slavery, not that people consciously went to war to end slavery.

How can it be said we are a free country when states are being held against their will?

"Held against their will," indeed. That phrase certainly had a lot of resonance in 1860s America. How could it be said that we were a free country when so many people were being held against their will? Your words, not mine.

But secession was as much a procedural question as anything else. If the secessionists had chosen to work through Congress or the courts or a national convention, peaceful separation might have been possible.

Simply declaring a state to be seceded, seizing federal property, forming a new confederation and shooting at federal troops was a recipe for civil war, and many people foresaw that well in advance of the war.

These are troubling questions people like to sweep under the rug by saying it was about slavery.

And vice versa. Troubling questions about slavery get swept under the rug when people say the Civil War was about state's rights or even tariffs.

I would agree with everthing except that it was procedural. There is no process.

“But, “However, the Civil War was not fought over slavery.” This discredits you.

The Civil War due to slavery and only slavery.”

Debrainwash yourself. Read Thomas DiLorenzo’s “ The Real Lincoln”.

I agree fully and pointed out that I agreed with Red Guard comparison.

What’s interesting or ironic is that the only people who think the Civil War was not about slavery besides southern revisionists are communists.

I first heard the “Civil War was not about slavery” from leftist sources. I had no idea til later that any non-communists held that position.

It is very important for the communists to convince people that the Civil War was not about slavery because it fits their narrative and helps condemn the United States in their dishonest world view, which they try to spread.

The war was first and foremost about States Rights

The slavery issue was raised to dupe people like you into getting their abolitionist panties in a twist.

You are attempting to perpetuate tha abolitionist lie

Lol.

You and the communists are in full agreement.

It’s amazing how the Marxists took the sore loser revisionism and used it to slander the US.

It’s always been important to to the communist to portray the US as an immoral country, a country purely of greed and oppression. It is not in their interests to acknowledge that the US would fight to free enslaved people.

Does not fit their narrative.

The War of Northern Aggression was not fought over the morality of slavery.

It may have been fought over the economics of slavery.

It was Definitely fought over the economic stranglehold of the North over the South.

Folks who parrot the slavery meme are like broken records.

You and the communists can believe that all you want.

You, the communists, Black Lives Matter, Antifa etc...

You all believe that.

It is leftist dogma that the Civil War was not about slavery.

The Civil War was fought because the South fired on Ft Sumter.

They fired on Ft Dumter because they had declared succession.

They declared succession because abolitionist forces had gained power via election in the US.

Anyhow I’m still groggy and see I wrote succession. Lol. Duh.

Those saying the Civil War was not about slavery always cite Lincoln or other northern statements or views.

The question is why did the South secede?

To be able to continue slavery and expand slavery in to new states.

There would have been no Civil war if the south had not declared secession, which is therefore the cause of the Civil War and the reason was to continue slavery.

Actually, it is uncritical, mouth-breathing leftist dogma that the War of Northern Aggression was about slavery and only slavery.

That’s a leftist meme that they hold close to their hearts.

Thinking people can see deeper than that.

No, it’s just fact.

I never heard that the civil war was not about slavery until I heard hard leftist and communist propaganda.

It was only actually here at FR in late 90’s that I learned there were others than the ultra left who held that view.

It was interesting to see how it evolved and that it was not original with the communists but that they got the revisionist argument from the Southron revisionists.

It’s ironic to say the least.

Marxism has been simmering in academia for a long time.

Ayers could never had accomplished what he did without the mentoring and assistance of Marxists of my father and grandfather's generation.
