“Some get into trouble here and there but that has always been the case.”

Not so. A sea change in the last 20 years.

My home team’s star players are Joe Mixon and Berfict and Pacman. Top that from the past.

‘And don’t worry, we will still have major league baseball and the NBA.’

baseball will die as well, except as a Latin American sport...it has the unique, dooming quality that virtually no other sport has; it somehow manages to be more mind numbingly boring than soccer, which takes some doing...

check out youth soccer leagues in your local town; then contrast youth baseball...the numbers don’t lie...

“At sporting events, our government captures the nostalgia we feel for neighborhood friendship and family pastimes, associates it with the anthem and flag, and then converts it into passive, numb surrender to perpetual warfare.”

>>Statement is too dumb to comment on.

He called it “numb surrender” but “dumb surrender” works too.

‘The injuries were self inflicted by owners who determined that violent thugs made better players on the field than persons of character.’

absolutely true; and also why I think the sport will continue for some time yet...thugs are uncivilized, and in an uncivilized culture, the strongest will prevail and force their will; that means young men, especially undisciplined young black men; society dare not leave them idle...

Some of the bigger name schools may have money left over to go into the general fund, but I don’t think the lower half teams of big football conferences would.

‘Football itself will remain American’

and by necessity must become far less injurious; this may mean some form of juiced up flag football...

I’ve heard that there are only two universities where athletics are profitable. All the rest use their big sports (football and men’s basketball) to partially fund the rest of the athletics department with the rest coming from the general fund of tuition and state subsidies.

“...due to a bunch of MULTI-MILLIONAIRES who cannot constrain their hatred of the country that made them rich.”

I think due to racist blacks who hate white people, and ignorant faux guilt-ridden whites enabling them.

Baseball is a better game. And while I’m sure they do their share of lying and cheating, they have the minor leagues. They are a huge improvement over pretending every Hulk born should be in college just because they can carry or defend against a ball.

"Some of them could sit down with the owners and explain—you keep politics out of the game or we break your knees. :-)"

And if you mention "extortion" again,
I'll have your legs broken.

Pro football is going to die for a number of reasons, but one that doesn't seem to get a lot of attention is this:

In the space of 20-30 years it has managed to go from an exciting sport to a dull one.

Only a small part of this can be attributed to changes in the game itself (endless penalty flags, 3+ hours of TV time for 15 minutes of football, etc.). The rest is a cultural change in a modern society that simply prefers to have more constant stimulation than what a football game offers for entertainment. What used to be exciting several decades ago just isn't so exciting anymore.

The unintended consequences of proggie actions are something to behold.

Stupidity on parade, over and over and over again.

True for those schools where the players actually get an education. That's not true everywhere. Top and bottom 25 D-1 football graduation rates (2013 data)

Baseball will never die.

It will have peaks and valleys in terms of popularity, but Baseball is America. Attendance is still overall very good.

And we will be a weaker and sorrier nation for drifting in the direction that this pathetic author is pushing.

We are getting our competitiveness and desire to excel “nuanced” out of us, by being told we are oh, so too intellectual and sensitive, now.

This is all a plot, to immaculate the USA. And they try to blame Jesus for it!

One good indication of baseball’s popularity in this country has been the resurgence of minor league ball in a lot of places.
