New restrictions come into force in Austria on Sunday banning the wearing of the full Islamic veil and other items concealing the face in public places and buildings.
Exemptions "under certain conditions" include items like clown disguises "at cultural events", work wear such as medical masks, and scarves in cold weather, the government says.
The restrictions are aimed at "ensuring the cohesion of society in an open society", it says. Violations will be punished with a fine of up to 150 ($177).
"Acceptance and respect of Austrian values are basic conditions for successful cohabitation between the majority Austrian population and people from third countries living in Austria," Vienna says.

This is the right policy. The only people who should be considered for permanent residency and citizenship should be people who admire Austria and want to be Austrian.
Whatever restrictions they put on Muslims, they will put ten times more on Christians.
YES! The same policy should be adopted by ALL civilized nations!
I’ll hold off on celebrating for when they enact mandatory Weißbier consumption.
That's what I think about immigration into the US. The only people who should be considered for residency and citizenship should be people who love us and want to be us.
You are willing for Christianity to be banned?
Ban the burka - and the people in them.

Announce all the new regulations that you want. And explain them any way you want. But be sure of one thing. Regardless of what you say - or do - the snake will still work towards his only goal: devour the rabbit.
Burka schmurka dirka dirka jihad!
Christianity is a belief, not a style of clothing.
So how is this different from people like the Amish who wear a distinctive style of clothing, or nuns wearing habits, etc.?
IMO, the difference is that the burka completely conceals a person’s identity. In addition, it is often very menacing-looking. I have seen people in burkas that look like Darth Vader, very creepy and ominous. There is no telling who might be under it or what else might be concealed under it. I don’t think very many people have ever felt menace from a nun or an Amish person’s clothing.
