the stricken island.
Trump claims the government is doing plenty. And he's right. It turns out that the disaster relief for Puerto Rico is on the island. But at the moment, 10,000 containers of food, water, medicine, and other supplies are sitting on the docks and at airports waiting to be delivered to those who need it.
CNN reports that the problems are many; lack of truck drivers, blocked or washed out roads, and a curious lack of coordinated action by local governments.
A mountain of food, water and other vital supplies has arrived in Puerto Rico's main Port of San Juan.
But a shortage of truckers and the island's devastated infrastructure are making it tough to move aid to where it's needed most, officials say.
At least 10,000 containers of supplies -- including food, water and medicine -- were sitting Thursday at the San Juan port, said Jose Ayala, the Crowley shipping company's vice president in Puerto Rico.
Part of the reason for the distribution backlog is that only 20% of truck drivers have reported back to work since Hurricane Maria swept through, according to a representative for Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rosselló.
On top of that, a diesel fuel shortage and a tangle of blocked roads mean the distribution of supplies is extremely challenging. Even contacting drivers is a problem because cell towers are still down.
"When we say we that we don't have truck drivers, we mean that we have not been able to contact them," Rosselló said.
On Thursday the White House authorized a 10-day waiver of the Jones Act, a federal law that limits shipping to US ports by foreign vessels.

Stuff you won’t hear about in the New York Slimes or the Washington ComPost.
The Puerto Rican Teamsters Union is refusing to work. No trucks. Domestic contrived crisis to blame on Trump.
Exactly. The union sees this as a great time to call a strike.
RE: The Puerto Rican Teamsters Union is refusing to work.
Is there a news source that tells us of this outrage?
And the RAT mayor of San Juan doesn’t do anything except bitch and moan about Trump.
Considering 20’ for a short container if they were stacked end to end that’s at least 38 miles of cargo.
This is not true according to the General in charge of military in Puerto Rico. He said all FEMA containers have been dispatched. The containers sitting there are commercial containers with all kinds of products in them.
That's a crock! in America, truck drivers would have reported to work knowing full well that they are needed. We are seeing just what a $hit hole we've been supporting since we took it from Spain. Time to give it back. Maybe it can replace Catalonia. You can bet that anything that's Hispanic will not be anything we need to hang onto. PR is just like Mexico and all the effing countries south of Mexico, Whether they are “Spanish” or Portuguese, you can be sure they are corrupt to the core. It's genetic.
Amazingly, the largest container ships can carry 20,000 20’ containers.
The MSM keeps reporting on the, “10 day waiver of the Jones Act” but it was the Jones Act which granted citizenship to Puerto Ricans.
How’s your Spanish?

PR Teamster Leader won’t let drivers go to work
He is vehemently blaming the governor for the impasse. The reporter tries to reason with him saying that the passage of the law is a thing in the past, and at this very moment, the island is faced with an emergency situation. Puerto Rican people have been highly critical of him for playing politics during an emergency over a law the governor signed in August giving some advantage to Uber and Lyft.
They are getting their marching orders from the DNC, just like Blanco and Nagin during Katrina.
BS. American container drayers have more excuses than God as green apples. They are more often late than on time and frequently don’t show up on the appointed day.
They and their dispatchers lie like Obama as a matter course
Then declare martial law and force the trash to work.
nice video of teamsters boss saying puerto rico drivers are on strike
From another source -— same video
The toothless guy is complaining about a law that the governor passed three weeks ago.
The reporter CONFIRMS that the truck drivers are refusing to work in order to get revenge on the governor.
The toothless guy says that the governors policies have impacted truckers, so now truckers will show the country THEIR OWN suffering.
The reporters says, But all this stuff is in the past. In the present, its an emergency.
The toothless guy says that the country can now experience what the truckers experienced due to the governors policies.
The toothless guy says the truckers are not responsible for helping the country. Thats the governors job.
Three weeks earlier, nobody cared about the plight of the truckers, so now the truckers dont care about the country.
This is all the governors fault, the toothless guy says. He passed a law, and now he has to live with it.
The governor didnt understand the suffering of the working man, so now the truckers will show the country what suffering is.
Since the country doesnt care about truckers, the truckers wont help.
Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto kind of reminds me of Cartman of South Park.
Besides her looking like Cartman, she’s a total joke.
They’re waiting for room service.
A lot of those palettes are Goya food products. Should be popular with the locals.
