Bridge and new highway linking Norway and Russia officially opens

Despite big politics with storms and uncertainties between Europe and Russia, everyday life for people on both sides of the border in the high north continues.

Back in the day, I was at the Officers Club at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. My next door neighbor was special forces and his duty assignment was Norway. When the balloon went up, he was going to organize the resistance there. Sorry to inform you, but we thought we'd take a shellacking if the balloon went up but thought we could slow down the bastards enough so that follow-on forces could turn things around.

So, like I said, we were at the O Club, catching a fight, I think George Foreman versus Ken Norton. We're having a few beers, and I said to him how are you going to organize the resistance. You're black. He joked, he said he'd say he was from southern Norway. Sure, I said. Be real. Then he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a pocket Constitution. He said he'd go anywhere to defend this. Like I said, we were having a few beers.

Now they've opened a freeking road between Russia and Norway! What chance do we have?

That’s the first time I’ve seen yellow striping separating opposite direction traffic. Although I’m not sure why there is long yellow striping and short yellow striping side by side in some areas of the road. I’ve always found the white striping in other parts of Europe to be confusing.

Which means that the Russians can save gas and wear by using tank transporters instead of having to drive the tanks all the way to Norway.

I would imagine it has something to do with the tunnel and notice the side roads are ‘correct’.

the Long yellow alongside short yellow means passing ok on spaced yellow, not on solid...(same as our two lane roads)

OR

The Russians & Norse gave in to BLM and didn’t want to put WHITE on top of BLACK, a true sign of symbolism.

Now the Blacks will complain that the Chinese etal are holding them down AND the shoulder stripes are White...

Yes. I was there once in July, at the Kirkenes border crossing, and the temperature was in the eighties.

Yeah, I just reviewed some pics of the new bridge.

It’s quite nice looking and the surrounding area looks like Northern Ontario in the Fall (oddly enough...).

I didn't say solid line next to stripe, I said long stripe next to short stripe. Watch the video.
