Rand Paul: Trump will take executive action on healthcare after Senate failure [BFD!]
Washington Examiner ^ | 9/27/2017 | Pete Kasperowicz

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., predicted Wednesday that President Trump would soon move on his own to make health insurance more affordable, after the Senate failed again this week to advance any bill to reform federal healthcare policy.

Paul he has been pitching the idea of using the Employee Retirement Income Security Act to let people buy insurance across state lines. That law already allows corporations to buy insurance across state lines for their workers if they are located in several states.

Paul's idea is to let individuals form associations and do the same thing, and he said Trump administration officials have been "enthusiastic" about the idea.

"It already exists," Paul said. "What I'm trying to do is let individuals get into that marketplace, and this would be an enormous benefit."

I think the Donald should appoint a horse to the senate. A good horse, not just any old swayback nag.

This is an excellent approach.

It will greatly diminish the danger of “single payer” gaining any traction.

Mostly what we need is repeal of all O-care taxes and limitations.

This plan is based on ERISA.
Have no idea what irrelevant idea you are on about.

Paul must be delusional. There can be no “full repeal” with this Congress. One has to start with the possible not demand the impossible.

Agreed. I only agree with him, say, 95% of the time (higher probably than with any other senator), but either way I believe he believes in the position he’s taking.

Yeah, but at least she didn’t flat out lie(numerous times) like demented John McCain and Lisa Murkowski.

That’s the only compliment I can give Collins.

This is a BIG DEAL if Trump does this. It guts one of the major restrictions of obamacare and fixes the lack of insurance carriers that most have, some now having zero available carriers. And, basically, there are no drawbacks.

On the other hand, maybe there is a reason a given state or county has no insurance company willing to write policies for Obamacareites - ITS NOT PROFITABLE. So now that an insurance carrier can come from out of state to write policies, which insurance company is going to come and do so when IT IS NOT PROFITABLE!

The requirements of the ACA make it unaffordable for real insurance, or very expensive with deductibles too high for the people with the policies.

Question: Why would doctors take subsidized Obamacare patients (meaning they can't afford the premiums, so the government chips in) when they know the subsidized Obamacare patient can't afford to pay the deductible? They won't, because they know they won't get paid.

And the next socialist President will craft an E.O. cancelling all of Trump’s actions. How ‘bout Congress passes laws.

How about Trump EO's it, then Congress codifies it into law.

BTW, if it reduces premiums, why/how would the next socialist president reverse it (politically speaking).

Never underestimate the stupidity and corruption of the democrat party. They'' do just about anything.

Since the Constitution does not give the fed govt. control over health care, O-care is unconstitutional, but then there are lots of other unconstitutional laws and rulings. In spite of that, I think it’s very likely Dems would challenge either an EO or law passed by congress that would allow a healthcare policy described in this article (for example buying policies across state lines).

They might challenge bills to do that, but I don’t see a problem with government declaring markets open for business.

One could also attack what’s going on now as a restraint of trade.

I want things handled through Congress, because I want it clear we have complied with the Constitution to get things done.

There’s also a problem, of a future president simply pulling out his pen and cancelling things not handled by Constitutional methods.

True, but also the threat of a Trump EO could motivate congress to act on healthcare.
