HOUSTON – Police say someone in a passing vehicle opened fire on officers who responded to a 911 call at a restaurant along the South Loop.
The crime happened at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chacho's Mexican Restaurant near Buffalo Speedway.
Officers with the Houston Police Department say they were initially called to the restaurant due to reports of an angry customer who was damaging the property. As police were in the parking lot, it's believed that same suspect drove by on the frontage road fired shots at the officers.
A bullet struck a police cruiser, but no injuries were reported.
The suspect, described only as a black male 25 to 30 years old, fled the scene as police took cover.
"It's very hardening when anybody sees a group of police officers anywhere, or citizens, standing out front of an establishment and just shoots for any reason," said Executive Assistant Chief Sgt. T. Tanner. "Whoever the suspect is, a word to him: we're coming after you. Hopefully you just turn yourself. To our great citizens of Houston, if anyone has seen him or knows anything about him, please get with us."

I live right by this locale, and I will be frank: I stopped taking my family there because the clientele is almost entirely black. I sensed hostility the last few times I was there. It apparently has some kind of cult status among black people.
Big groups of blacks go there en masse, like black motorcycle clubs, but NOT church groups.
Last time I was there a black dude had his trunk open so as to “signal” others of his kind, and let everyone there see his neat message: a custom neon sign on the underside of the trunk that stated, brightly, “HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW BITCH?”
I refuse to expose my family to that.
The suspect - this is the stereotypical hero to much of the NFL.
For reference, it’s close to the Astrodome and Reliant stadium and has been a rather sketchy area of town for decades.
Knew a girl from Denmark who didn’t know that and was in a convenience store in the area late at night when an armed robbery went down and got pistol whipped in the mouth losing several teeth.
The Texaco on Main at Buff Sdwy is the closest gas to me, but I don’t like going there.
Always some ghetto rabble in the area, doing hijinks.
Sometimes I must go there to get gas, and it’s “head on a swivel time” until I GTFO.
