5 Stupid Arguments in Favor of the NFL Protests of the National Anthem
Breitbart ^ | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 09/25/2017 3:39:06 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

President Donald Trump called out former 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick and other NFL players on Friday for protesting the national anthem, expressing what millions of football fans have already registered by tuning out.

But NFL officialdom, Hollywood, the mainstream media, and left-wingers in all quarters have distorted what he said, to the point where entire teams felt obligated to protest — something.

Here are five bad arguments driving the hysteria.

1. Trump attacked freedom of speech. The First Amendment does not generally extend into a private workplace, any more than it gives me the right to come into your house and hector you with my opinions. No one has ever told Colin Kapernick or anyone else not to march in protest, attend a demonstration, or hold a sign on a sidewalk. What fans object to is that he is protesting on the clock. He has no right to do that, and Trump is correct that NFL owners — if they had any spine — ought to tell the protesting players to get lost. If you doubt that, try a thought experiment: what would happen to a player who wore a Nazi armband to opening lineups? What about his freedom of speech?

2. Trump launched a racist attack. This is the fashionable argument among the intellectually lazy and perpetually aggrieved. But there is nothing racist about objecting to the sort of behavior that is so radical that it is almost never done. Proof: the same NFL players who knelt for The Star-Spangled Banner at Sunday’s game in London stood for God Save the Queen...

I don’t recall him ever uttering Kaepernick’s name, nor did he invoke “race”.

He was talking about PATRIOTISM.

Trumps exactly what he is doing. The “take-a-knee” movement is nothing more than “Black Lives Matter” dressed up in shoulder pads and helmets.

On this topic of Trump attacking ‘freedom of speech’. Two questions:

1. Wouldn’t customers have ‘freedom of speech’ in buying or not buying a ticket as well?

2. All of this ‘freedom of speech’ stuff...so all this knee-down stuff stops when we elect a Democratic President? Is that all we have to do....to stop the knee-down madness...just vote an idiot who has a (D) behind his or her name? Or does the knee-business just continue on....forever?

A white woman would’ve been enough to stop it. It’s clearly not racial, but the entire communist ideology that’s in shape here.

The players kneeling etc. are Useful Idiots. Low IQ types manipulated into thinkinv it’s a good thing. Behind the scenes pulling their strings are communists. It’s a basic communist tactic. Sure smells like them. It’s what they do.

Trump knows this, and is one reason why he chose this particular battle.

Imho only.

My thought is that this is all scripted out on some white board (like a pro-wrestling episode) and the NFL reaches a economic failure point within two years. Fifty percent of all fans drop out...fan paraphernalia won’t sell...TV contracts drop from the $3.5 billion a year to $1.5 billion. This all leads to massive salary restructure situation and players go on a strike....only to discover six months later that the league can’t survive. Fans are permanently gone.

You look at the 32 teams....combined NFL value in franchise imaginations is roughly 32-billion dollars. But that’s only if fans exist. If you had laid out $1.2 billion four years ago, and wake up in December 2018....needing to sell a team with economic problems, then I doubt that the value will still be $1.2 billion. At that point, the owners will all start to realize it was a pyramid scheme.

Go and imagine the NCAA at that point. Their money-pit will dry up real quick.

Same deal for the NBA. All of this was a fake economic reality....just one big huge pyramid scheme and the knee-down trick will collapse all of these.

There is NO WAY the NFL and those losers called football players will win the stupid game which they started. The American people, particularly WE, the “Deplorables”, have had enough of their bull crap and are starting to fight back not with bullets, bats or rocks but with the most important weapon we have, MONEY. I read yesterday that the NFL has lost some $200 MILLION already and the drain is getting worse. THAT is how to defeat those overpaid idiots. Stop spending money for anything connected with their stupid games and many of those protestors will be picking up garbage in the streets when there are no more Sunday afternoon pity parties called football. Hit them in the pocket book, their sponsors as well. Make it happen.

The protests violant strict NFL rules that state a player must stand for the anthem, face the flag with their hand over their heart. Refusal to honor the anthem will result in fines, loss of pay, suspension or release.

Folks your tax dollars help fund these NFL stadiums to the tune of over a billion dollars!
Pro America players should unfurl a banner saying that while the Anthem is played and the morons are kneeling.
What’s good for them should be good for the other, are tax dollars are funding it

The NFL is now against America. Let’s see how this plays out in Ticket Sales, Loss of Viewers and Corporate Events at the Stadiums.

The most stupid one of all I have heard is the one some people are jumping up and down to voice, as if it is the wisest, most original one of all: “They have a right. This is America.” All the while overlooking the fact that the protesting players are saying to them — “Screw you.”

Do they have the right? Well, not necessarily. Most, if not all of us, would be fired if we protested on company time. It is a right granted to them by the NFL only. As Jerry Jones made clear, it is not a right of the Dallas Cowboys.

Let’s all wait for the Cowboys to protest.

Thanks for the post RR
Looking at the dark black stain from this direction, it appears the NFL is free to tell ALL its customers that if they wish to show bias and principals in what they believe they have the right to do so. UP YOURS!

However, a baker, photographer or any other business is prohibited from doing the same, according to TPTB. Where is the justice in that? Under the pile on?

Very true. 100% agree.

my only bone to pick is that if the kneeling athlete says any word or epithet or wears anything confederate or exclusionary (white lives matter) or refuses to be politically correct, he most certainly will punished and or fined, but if he kneels, that’s free speech.

"Ask Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Alejandro Villanueva, a U.S. Army veteran of three tours in Afghanistan, about how he found the courage to stand up to his entire locker room and walk out, hand over heart, for the national anthem at Soldier Field in Chicago."

Let's take this moment to salute a patriot....

Can’t see why people, even veterans I’m seeing on fox and friends are missing this point about tge truth and the basis of the flag

Fox reporters are infeeeuuuritaingly ignorant about the flag for ppl who claim to be knowledgeable-have responsibility to be- It’s like my fellow Catholic family and friends no idea there’s a catechism, much less consult it and refer to it for decision making or so, even while claiming to be Catholic

So in case the always wise and succinct JP is reading

I am a combat vet. Do not have a public forum. Should

Headed a post a made earlier in response to another freepers comment. In quotes

Don’t know why people are missing this truth. If it’s for ratings- shame

“I predict the hit baseball took from it’s striking players will be minor in comparison.”

This is about disrespecting the flag. Unless the NFL gets wise and denounces this they are done. Over. No way to sustain itself

The flag stands for our nation. Whatever grievance these guys have. However true or false it is, there is nothing in our founding tenets, our constitution, that either promotes, legalizes or even allows for racism or any kind of favoritism.

The flag does not stand for any of that. Doesn’t matter if people who claim to be patriotic are racists. Doesn’t matter if any of the founders were racists or personally promoted slavery.

The flag does not represent that.

Therefore, this protest against the flag - The National Anthem- is completely bogus. This is led by and promoted by men who lack the sense of logic it takes to sustain a protest. Where are their wives, families and associates on this, advising them? They are all going to fail and in shame

This is a protest based on emotion and nothing else. It does not matter what kind of destruction it brings or how many people are involved, it lacks a sensible premise.

It will take the NFL with it. Denouncing it would fix it but it is out of control. That should have been done immediately.

Tomorrow Rush is going to have to lead off with a statement on the Steelers.

Whatever he says, people are wise to realize that Trump is well aware when he calls a position what the stakes are going to be. If the NFL wants to go down swinging instead of calling it off, Trump will not flinch when this major entity goes down and out leaving stadiums empty like multiple Roman coliseum ruins, ruining the fortunes of owners, a major part of our cultural history taken out by its own moral weakness even while trying to blame Trump.

Because this started when the sun set on the day that first player disrespected the flag while on duty in uniform and his employers failed to denounce it immediately. They failed to cut it off at the start.

Disrespect for the flag, especially public, rampant, organized, as this is, can not be allowed without destroying the country.

Someone has to cut off this diseased entity.

It may as well be the president.

Anyone wavering on this will find out what a mistake it was in time

NASCAR owners issued a blanket statement there will be no taking of knees. The King Richard Petty had some strong words on that as did some of the other big owners.

Now we have a singer who sang the Anthem and took a Knee. Time to make sure they don’t do it again.

Singer Rico Lavelle took a knee after singing the national anthem at Sunday’s Detroit Lions game.

THESE NFL KMEELERS AND NO SHOWS ARE COWARDS!

I’d like to see every National Anthem from now on sung by a group of COMBAT VETERANS, AMPUTEES, AND THOSE IN WHEELCHAIRS. They should publicly shame these multimillionaire brats who are kneelers and no shows. Shame on them all.
