Washington Examiner ^ | 9/22/2017 | Sarah Westwood

President Trump said Friday that Roy Moore, the challenger to Sen Luther Strange for the Republican Senate nomination in Alabama, would be more likely to lose the general election to the Democratic candidate.

"I have to say this-Luther will definitely win. Roy has a very good chance of not winning-in the general election" Trump said during a rally in Huntsville, Ala on Friday in honor of Strange ahead of Tuesday's GOP primary runoff......

The "Washington Examiner" take on President Trump's speech last night.

Behind the distractions about the NFL-ESPN etc. the quote about "electability".

Something always brought up to discredit conservative and or outsider candidates including Donald J. Trump himself countless times last year.

President Trump chose to make this speech under the cover of Friday night for the national audience, but I would not be surprised to see his remarks in video ads or hear his words in robocalls in final days of the campaign for the folks in Alabama.

This election (once we get past Moore or Strange)...is a non-election year episode. You can figure that it’ll be lucky if one-million folks show up and vote. This works better for the GOP than the Democrats. You can figure for every Democrat coming out to vote...it’ll be two likely GOP-voters. If this had been a Presidential election period...I’d give higher odds on this being a bit closer. Whether Trump showed up or not....I don’t think he helps or changes the outcome of this primary...Moore wins, and goes easily on to win the final election.

So Trump has signed on to the despicable tactics of the GOPe, the rats who have sabotaged so many conservative candidates over the years. How many of these same rats harped about Trump’s “unelectability” during the primaries and right up to Election Day? This is disappointing in the extreme.

Trump's new Alabama pick can't possibly be worse than his last one..

I don't really care, frankly. Strange is a GOPe stooge, to be sure, albeit supportive of Trump (for now). Moore seems soft in the head, and prone to remarkably stupid utterances. That didn't work out too well for Todd Akin.

Obviously you folks didn’t actually listen to the speech but are making statements on what was written about it. The key reason that President Trump is supporting Senator Strange is that, when President Trump called him to ask for his vote on the healthcare bills, Luther Strange said, “You have my vote.” All the other Senators that President Trump called who were “nos” wanted something for their vote. So President Trump concluded that Senator Luther Strange is not a swamp creature.

I wish POTUS would have stayed OUT of this primary race.

Too late now.

I hope Judge Roy Moore wins this primary and he will go onto win the U.S. Senate seat!

I think McConnell went and asked for special ‘help’ on this because Strange is their inside guy (favored by the lobbyists). Once Moore arrives in DC....his relationship with McConnell is ‘zero’ and will never improve.

Moore stood up to the judicial bullies. That’s what we need in D.C. How is it even possible that Moore isn’t electable compared to Strange? Either one of them is more than likely going to beat the Democrat. Trump should’ve stayed out of it.

When Moore wins President Trump can rub Mitch’s nose in it to demonstrate how out of touch he is with the base.

Trump is afraid Moore will lose and his Senate margin will decline. It’s already razor thin. Trump is used to New York politics where candidates must be lukewarm to be elected as a R. At this point it doesn’t matter, the R’s aren’t doing anything anyway, regardless of their margin.

That didn't work out too well for Todd Akin.

Missouri has Democrats. Alabama doesn't. At least not many.

Why would McConnell go to Trump for help, given the way the two men feel about each other? And why would Trump give it?

Trump is supporting Strange because for some reason he felt the need to get involved in the primary, and having done so he supported Strange because Strange has been loyal. Trump, for the most part, rewards loyalty.

In electing Moore the Republicans are more likely to have another Rand Paul. Moore will vote his conscience. Given his campaign rhetoric I would have expected him to be a no vote on Graham-Cassidy for the same reason why Paul voted no - it isn't a repeal.

-—why would Trump give it?——

Because the accomplishment of broad political objectives is more important than the accomplishment of narrow conservative goals that are deemed unattainable.

Roy Moore has 70 IQ over Akins. Akins was McDonnell/Boehners’ stooge.
I want Conservatives, not “electable” squishes.

I guess I missed something when I heard people on this forum say - REPEAL.

Are you arguing for more Federal G.ment swamp-critter imposed dictatorship?
