Roy Moore and Luther Strange stand face-to-face tonight in Montgomery for what could be the defining event of a bitter campaign for the U.S. Senate. With no moderator, the two men will take turns telling voters where they stand and why they are the right Republican to send to the U.S. Senate. It will be the only debate of the six-week runoff campaign, which ends with Tuesday’s election. The winner faces Democratic nominee Doug Jones on Dec. 12.
Former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Moore led a nine-candidate Republican field during the Aug. 15 primary, capturing 39 percent of the vote. Strange finished second with 33 percent. Strange has held the Senate seat since his appointment by former Gov. Robert Bentley in February.
In a state where President Trump enjoys strong popularity among Republicans, both candidates have vowed to support Trump’s “drain the swamp” agenda in D.C.
The campaign has drawn national attention and visits to the state from political heavyweights. Trump endorsed Strange before the primary and will appear at a campaign rally for the senator in Huntsville on Friday night. Vice President Mike Pence will campaign for Strange in Birmingham on Monday night. In Moore’s corner is former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, still a rock star to some Republicans. Palin will be lead a rally for Moore tonight in Montgomery. Joining her will be Sebastian Gorka, a former adviser to Trump. Former Trump senior adviser Steve Bannon endorsed Moore, too.
Tonight’s event will follow the format of the Lincoln-Douglas debates of the 1850s, with no moderator or panel to ask questions. Each candidate will give five-minute statements to open, followed by exchanges of five-minute statements and rebuttals. They will close with five-minute statements. The campaigns agreed to the format after Moore pulled out of a debate the Alabama Policy Institute was scheduled to host at Samford University. Moore said he withdrew because the institute’s president is treasurer of the Senate Leadership Fund, a super political action committee that has run ads attacking Moore.

Good. That's how every debate should be. Other than that classic old fossil Jim Lerher who still does a reasonably credible job as a moderator, the rest of the class just can't help injecting themselves into the fray.
Trump endorsed Strange, but Moore is the candidate more like Trump.
Strange is an establishment flunky.
Latest polls are close, and the President is bragging it’s cause of his endorsement. Boo!

Have extended friends of 40+ yrs who do, and they are all Judge Moore Voters. And its a big family with lots of friends.
All my friends are too, one of his biggest supporters is a OB Nurse and her EXTENDED family.
