The state-based movement to continue meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change following President Trump’s choice to withdraw is making headway. The U.S. Climate Alliance, as the group is called, said Wednesday that it is on track to meet and possibly surpass its portion of the Paris Agreement’s targets of a 24% to 29% reduction in greenhouse gas emission rates from 2005 levels by 2025. The Paris Agreement, which was adopted in 2015 by 195 countries, aims to reduce emissions in order to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.

During the press conference, the attendees lambasted the president’s choice to pull out of the agreement. “No burden was placed on the United States other than what we in the United States set for ourselves,” Kerry said. “He forfeited American leadership.”

The governors and Kerry also made repeated references to the hurricanes that have made landfall on U.S. soil — Harvey, Irma and now Maria — as well as the wildfires burning across the West Coast as an indication of what could occur if climate change worsens.

I say those states are welcome to throw sand into the gears of their own economies. On second thought, that might well create or accelerate an exodus from those states and the refugees will come to the other states bearing all the attitudes that wrecked their previous states of abode.

That’s fantastic. States Rights and all. But that doesn’t mean America must join the Paris Accord and give them a boatload of tax dollars.

If states can defy the federal law, why can’t individuals defy state law..?

In other words:

If states can ignore federal laws on the simple basis they don’t LIKE certain laws, why can’t individuals do that with state laws they don’t like..?

Indeed in California where there are very many illegal aliens, already many individuals do that.

The general movement is towards a culture of lawlessness.

Liberals are all “states’ rights” these days. Almost as if they have no principles at all.

I am completely behind states taking this sort of independent approach to their societies.

As long as they do it on their own dime, go for it. That means they will be coming to Trump begging for money. If he doesn’t turn them down then shame on him.

They have goals that they won’t meet, just like most of the countries who agreed to the Kyoto Protocol. It keeps the meme alive for future teeth, and jobs for a few connected pals. No big deal.

How are they defying Trump? Has Trump said he’s against this act of federalism?

Totally meaningless - unless they start writing checks to all the foreign countries who were counting on feeding on the American trough. That's what the foreign countries are really mad about - not getting their hands on our money.

most people once imagined if we saw the real emergence of A Confederacy that it would be in somewhere like Mississippi or Alabama.

But I find it deliciously ironic that in fact it’s taking place in California.

What’s more, California is being lead in this thinking by the very most liberal county, maybe Marin County.

Chardonnay John Brown..?
