Stick a fork in the Democrats and Republicans.
Wednesday night's latest round of deal making between President Donald Trump and Democratic congressional leaders is the latest evidence that the major political parties have lost all semblance of real power.
Never before have we seen the leadership of both major political parties so humbled. That power vacuum is currently enabling the president to act without any loyalty to his own party, while working with whomever he pleases on whatever issues he wants.
It's why we have a Republican congressional leadership, headlined by a Senate Majority Leader with an 18 percent approval rating in his own home state, that could not deliver on its party's seven-year-long promises to repeal and replace Obamacare.
And it's why the Democratic Party is getting more and more embarrassed as its highly-experienced-but-failed 2016 presidential nominee continues to weaken the brand by going on a national tour blaming everyone else for her election loss.
None of the above would have been possible before then-candidate Trump eviscerated a crowded field of 16 more experienced GOP regulars in the 2016 primaries. It wouldn't be possible before Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent who only registered as a Democrat months before the primaries, came extremely close to upsetting long-held party plans to nominate Hillary Clinton. (Now that same Senator Sanders is leading a march away from Democratic Party orthodoxy and fully advocating single payer health care, with a third of the Democrats in the Senate happily marching away with him.)
Even at the state level, we're starting to see party power dwindling, with outsiders like Kid Rock and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being seriously considered as candidates. So much for moving up the ranks in politics and waiting your turn.
It's important to remember this didn't start with President Trump or Senator...

Well, how long did it take to admit that the parties were actually decaying before Trump showed up.
Both parties should be finished.
They have not been representing the citizens for decades.
Since the last amnesty in 1986, both parties have only offered up candidates for President who supported open borders and endless amnesty for illegal aliens.
They have appointed judges who rule that law enforcement can’t enforce the law.
They have passed trillions of dollars of spending that has vanished without any benefit to the citizens.
And yet all members of a political party in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate after the 2018 midterm will be Republicans and Democrats. And after 2020, 2022, 2024...
They are The Party and have been partying on our dime for far too long. French haircuts for allah them!
Good. I'll have two graves upon which to dance.

Actually that’s a good article...though a bit late to the game that’s been rolling for quite awhile...still this does say it all....
...”The days of moving up the ranks in politics and waiting your turn is over”.....
Unless those voters turn out the Democrats in R jerseys, there is no opposition party.
Alexander, Corker, Flake, Graham, Hatch, Heller, Hoeven, Murkowsky, McCain, Rubio, Gardner, Burr, Tillis, Portman, McConnell, Thune, Cornyn, Cochran, Isackson, Blunt, Johnson, Toomey, Capito, Rounds, Fischer, Collins, Wicker, Sasse, Ernst, Young, Boozman and Shelby are all undocumented Democrats in R jerseys
The GOPe has become the party of crony capitalism. The democrats are progressives in part and corruptocrats as always. Trump was elected because he better understood Joe Sixpack.
Well weren't you watching the grand exodus during and after the election?.....Republicans going off the rolls to register Independent? I'm a Conservative but I tell you 'this' Republican Party does NOT represent me and especially those crying loudest that they do because they're conservative. Who's been aligning with the Libs to stop Trump?.....many of the Conservatives...... so the argument that they still represent 'us' is gone. They don't.
True..but it is a pretty good article Doughty.....the author and his work is what matters today far more than the station they contributed that work to. I am watching that very closely now.
Bannon OUT
Jvanka, McMaster IN.
The Trump revolution is over. Get over it.
I realize there is a decent argument to be made, that commentary should stand on it’s own.
Seems to me that there isn’t a person on this forum that doesn’t already know what the writer is trying to say.
The issue for me becomes, do I want someone to have to watch the network for 24 hours to finally see something like this.
Decidedly no.
So California now has Louisiana jungle primaries- Who woulda thunk it?
It’s funny that this post showed up just as I was finishing off a note to President Trump regarding an RNC “survey” he had endorsed which, like every piece of crap from the RNC, was really just a “fundraiser” by another “name.”
I hope he wasn’t offended that I referred to the RNC as “those assholes” in my comments.
The failure of the ballot box means we’re running out of boxes.
“So California now has Louisiana jungle primaries- Who woulda thunk it? “
Yes, and the CAGOP supported the change. So in the last election my choices were a guy who used to be the mayor of Orinda, or a female union goon! The “former mayor,” replete with round glasses, balding and with a beard won, and went busily to work on “gun control.” BTW, if you shoved a banana in his mouth, he’d look like a monkey taking a crap, but don’t they all? The only clean-shaven RATS today, are SOME of their “wimen.”
“An old order that’s been in place for generations that kept a lid on the kind of chaos we’ve seen in recent months has crumbled.”
the only “chaos” is in the minds of the legions of “journalists” who’ve been fabricating said “chaos” for publication by the Democrat/Leftist enemedia. The 98% of Republicans who voted for Trump in a primary and the general election don’t believe a word of it and still support him.
