Craig Roffman, 41, a former James Madison High School English teacher, was originally arrested on child porn charges in 2005 after police caught him with illicit images, reported the New York Post Friday. After Roffman agreed to a plea deal and lost his teaching job, a state judge deemed the former teacher “not a threat” and sentenced him to only four months of weekends in jail.

“The psychologists, who are top-notch guys, found that he is not a threat to children and not a threat for recidivism,” said Joseph Grob, Roffman’s lawyer at the time.

I never had teachers like that when I was there. Its the same school that graduated top students like Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Bernie, Chuck Schumer and a whole crap load of entertainers, singers, sports figures, and I would guess a plethora of Lawyers. This guy would have been bad back then, and the judge back then would have put him away for a long time, that’s if the parents hadn’t hung him before hand.

They cannot be cured. One of the things that led to the Catholic clergy scandals (and the much less reported ones in the Protestant churches) is that the bishops or heads of the churches were told in the 1970s to send their offending clergy to these programs. The programs cured nobody, and in fact some of them were still active offenders even while they were in the programs. And now the bishops or superiors are being blamed for having followed what was the recommended practice at the time.

The only solution is to remove these people from their positions and put them in jail.
