EV is a turd inside sold as futuristic looking.
First hint of the turd factor. It has an aerodynamic sleek streamlined body for a 100 mile vehicle. Useless. Wasteful.
Turd looking for free govt money grants.
not looking...... the proof of the grant pudding eating is there on display.
The money was received and spent for green jobs.
Meanwhile after the various layers of grant money was stolen, we have a $20 trillion debt.
It could change a tire while moving.
Great movie with a cast of people a 100% better than who is on now.
I have the CD too.
Ping to a FReeper in desperate need!.....................
Probably run a small cooling compressor, but I don't really know. What I do know that the big engine manufacturers are seriously looking at it, if not already doing conversions, initially for things like train engines, cargo ships and similar. Also pretty sure that the long-haul truck biggies are in at least the R&D stage. It has been a couple of years since I looked into it.
Higher efficiency than diesel, longer engine life, lower engine wear, and of course, lower emissions. The likely candidate cycle seems to be one that will initially inject a very small amount of diesel and a much larger amount of LNG, with the diesel acting as "spark" to ignite the main fuel mass.
I should add as a footnote that CNG is already being deployed extensively, initially in the short-to-medium haul segment. Recently saw a story that UPS was implementing a large fleet replacement with CNG vehicles which quotes a 600 mile operating range (which seems kinda long-haulish to me).
You don’t. You pressurize it.
The distribution of food and commodities is a national security issue. Keep them running on diesel.
You might try calling some local construction rental companies. They mght stock such items for their own breakdowns.
Especially junk that burns out alot.
You probably noticed that the unit has a fuse right?
I just noticed that when I was looking it up.
I use to work on some Multiqups vens that had a blue reset button that would pop if the gen oversped.
Multiquip Gens (proof read fail)
“Should have left the diesel in there, run it at a constant RPM driving a generator, and used electric motors to drive the wheels. Like a train locomotive.”
Yep, but they wouldn’t get subsidies unless they switched places of the engine/generator and the motor.
I bet there’s an easy way to add a generator to this, and that’s what most buyers will do.
Might even be a good idea in many situations.
Yes, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) has been deployed extensively, but LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) is a different.
I know that for ship that use LNG, they use the boil-off to power their engines, and this may work for long-haul trucks while on the road. I guess when the trucks are at rest stops, you could use the boil-off to keep the cabin warm or cool, similar to what truckers do now. The issue would be boil-off when the truck is completely shut down.
Ah! Thanks.
I searched and found that:
Jet (855) 538-4323
and Aostek in California (sold through Walmart)
5109361053
claim to have them.
UPS is running CNG and electric trucks on the highway. I haven’t diverted through their shop to see if that is hybrid or or straight electric. It was running on battery when it passed me.
Claptrap
With a few more improvements, and considering that idling is a big part of local delivery, this could make sense.
I agree. In high density cities, electric vehicles are very sensible. So are bicycles, walking, and public transportation. That’s about 1000 sq miles in a nation that is almost 4 million sq miles.
Electric vehicles should be heavily deployed in places where they are practical. As the technology improves, the number of practical places will increase in number.
No subsidies. No arm-twisting. No guilt trips. They are a niche product and their niches do exist.
No sarcasm intended here, but could you please clarify "on the highway".
Short haul (local delivery) or long haul (intercity)??
I assume it is hub to hub. The electrics I have seen are 10 wheelers pulling pup trailers. Both package cars (their name) what we think of as UPS home delivery trucks and 10 wheelers running CNG.
I am just a maintenance contractor out there but will look closer next time I am there.
They have the signs designating it in big letters on the sides of the vehicles.
